[if it's not baroque, don't fix it!]
Saturday I will be competing in my first open swim. 1 mile in Lake Placid. Exciting! I'm going up tomorrow with Molly to do a practice swim and meet the other 2 people from our team. I'm really looking forward to hanging out with them. They're older (late 40s maybe) and so dedicated to their swimming it's inspiring. They do it for their love of the sport and the people and that's what it should be about.
So, tomorrow we're heading up and meeting them for dinner & drinks. Saturday we have our race (woo!) and then a bbq and then (I guess) we all party [!!] Our boss is letting Molly and me use her summer house so we get to spend the weekend and it should be aweeeeeeeeesome.
I'm a little nervous about the swim, though. A mile is no problem. It's my thing. I'm a good distance swimmer and I know that. But, I've never done an open water swim before. I don't know how different it's going to be and I'm really nervous I'm going to get in the water and freak out. Or not be able to move. Or see a fish and cry. But I think I can do it. I'm just going to do the best I can and hopefully be happy with it (i'm an inspiration, eh?)
Another reason I'm nervous is that I got super sick Monday night complete with fever, aches and chills. Last night (Wednesday) was my first day in the pool since last Friday. I felt okay, but was hoping to get as much pool time in as possible. But oh well, at least I'm healthy again :)
Soooo, today at work I finally caved in and bought High School Musical. I can never catch it on tv and havent seen in at blockbuster, so I decided, why not?! and spent the $15 for the dvd that I have been told is a MUST SEE! It's not like I don't already know all the words to most of the songs...
In other disney related news, Emily & I went to Park Playhouse to see Beauty and the Beast. It was fun. It was free. Everyone was from New Paltz! I thought that was fun. The beast was a little whiney ("This beast is kind of Emo. I think he's going to start crying and listening to dashboard" - emily) and Belle was a little bit of a ditz (Don't blame me for being critical. Belle's my favorite). Very taleneted performers, beautiful costumes and sets, good fun.
I'm off to sleep. Wish me luck for this weekend! :)
