I'm not much of a Halloween-celebrator, and nobody's been by my block of flats asking for candy . . .
But we had a really nice day at work today. We'd missed the regular "Macmillan Coffee Morning" (a cancer charity thing - people bring in cakes, there's a raffle, that sort of thing) because the person in the office who normally organises it had been off on her honeymoon. It was resolved to hold a belated one, and to have it coincide with Halloween (because that way we got to be all thematic with the cakes). Also, the Christmas sugar rush hasn't started yet.
I brought in a quilt and some small stuffed toys to go in the raffle. Other contributions from other people included some bottles of wine, some toiletries, etc.
In total we raised two hundred and seventy-six pounds (plus any extra donations that people make tomorrow while finishing off the last of the nibbles).
It was a nice day. Everyone was in a good mood, the ladies organising it had put on cat makeup, there was plenty of cake, and the place was suffused with conscious virtue because we were all donating to charity.
And my quilt got won by someone who'd really, really wanted it. So that was excellent as well.
