At long last! I have decided upon a NaNoWriMo book!
True, I have no plot or characters or worldbuilding, BUT I HAVE A BOOK! YAY!
I just decided today. Actually, technically last night. I was listening to some music, and popped in my Garbage cd. Immediately, Tamei walked right in my head and demanded I get back to her story already. And refused to leave.
So, today I got up and threw together five pages of worldbuilding (relatively good for only a few hours' work, I feel).
It's immensely relieving to have finally decided. Fwoo.
And of course, sorry, Vi. I know you wanted to read more about the Group, but I just couldn't get into that right now. Some other year, perhaps.
Ah, and I'm probably going trick-or-treating tonight. It's my first time ever (how lame is that)! That is, assuming Erica calls me back soon. I may take pictures of myself in a crappy costume. WE SHALL SEE.
More importantly, I finally got Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder! Yay!
First off, I really love how much worldbuilding was apparently done. It's a nice new fantasy world that's really original.
I was worried that it would be bereft of characters from the first book, since the location had switched, but fortunately, Valek showed up three-quarters of the way through! Yay! Valek has grown even cooler now that he and Yelena are together. And Ari and Janco were great to read about again.
Mostly, though, I love the system of magic. It's interesting, and I love how Yelena screws it up all the time. I generally shy away from character who have almighty powerful magic, but her recklessness and overconfidence balances it out nicely.
So, I totally love this series and this author, and I can't wait for the next book. And it's not out 'til next YEAR. Nooooooo.
Aaaand that's about it. I'll post pictures of my exploded head tomorrow.
