There were few things worse for Susan than feeling helpless, because she wasn't helpless. So being in any sort of situation where bad things were happening and she had some information of why but not how to stop it, on top of the idea that her grandfather had set her up, just made her angry.
She had to wonder if maybe she didn't have some way to stop it. She walked through walls, she could use the Voice, she could get wherever she wanted when she wanted and appear invisible. She didn't need to be doing the Duty to do any of it. Who said there wasn't more to what she could do? Maybe she just didn't know about it yet. Hence the pep talk as she stared at herself in the mirror.
"Right. There has to be something you can do, something that you haven't realized yet," she told herself. "The problem is that you have no one to ask. You just have to figure out what it is, and then... and then possibly beat something up. I suppose."
And then she waited a moment, in case she magically thought 'Oh, right, I just learned a new power!'
Which of course, didn't happen.
"And now this is ridiculous," she muttered.
