Tsubasa RC Chapter 155 translation

Jun 06, 2007 21:18

I huffed and puffed a lot about the new POTC installment, but after checking some original clips on YouTube I'm beginning to think that 60% of the suckiness was really the fault of the dub after all. O_o A second viewing might help...? Curse you, multiplex cinemas!

Is there anything our dear Fai hasn't been put through yet? Wait, don't answer that. Knowing CLAMP, I'm pretty sure there IS. D: Though now we learn that he's after all... *drumroll* a prince! And surprisingly from a country different from Celes (makes you wonder about how Ashura ended up at his prison, then).

Oh, and Foy's actually called Yuui, much cuter name, IMO. :)

ETA: Stop! Confusion time!
Teaches me to
a.) pay more attention to flist.
b.) actually remember previous chapters. D:
(The one who died was the twin up in the tower, right? Right? so that makes...
our Fai = Yuui = poor baby at the bottom piling up the corpses. I retract the previous statement, there really isn't much left for him to go through.)

Please CLAMP, no more doubles. At least they have different names. (I'd really hate to start referring to one of them as Real!Fai, or... something. The Shaorans are more than enough. D:)

I was thrilled to see both the King and the narrator using old-fashioned speech - with different readings of kanji and all that -seems after reading texts like that all year at the uni, I must have ended up liking them after all. :)

all for the sake of the miracle that can change the world -

"The twins of misfortune"

Page 3.

Twin: You killed me.

Page 4.

Even though everyone in our Valeria Country had high hopes.

Even though the First Prince too was happy about the birth of a heir to the Second Prince.(1)

Why did it had to be twins?

Page 5.

The Second Prince passed away because of a sudden illness.
Twins are an evil omen after all.

The crops didn't grow.
The waters ran dry.

The Empress wife of the Second Prince took her own life.
Believing she was the one who caused this misfortune by giving birth to the twin heirs.

Page 6.

They are an evil omen after all.
Twins are an evil omen.

But their powerful magic...
Barely were they born, when together they already possessed a magic power second only to the First Prince,
the ruler of Valeria Country.
If they were to grow up, no one knows how much they would have surpassed the ruler.

They called upon misfortune. Misfortune.

They drove their father and mother to death, they destroyed the country.

Page 7.

But killing them would have caused an even bigger disaster.

Page 8.

King: The twins of misfortune. Lock them up.

They are responsible for all the disasters, misfortune is sealed inside their bodies.
Misfortune in the shape of twins. Because of their enormous magic power, it's a long life of misfortune.
They are misfortune personified.

Page 9.

King: If these twins are the only cause of the misfortune...
Then the country will prosper. The people will be happy.

This is a curse.

The twins shall be locked in different places.
In a chasm where their magic isn't effective. In a chasm where the flow of time is different.
Above.
And below.

Page 10.

King: If these twins...
Are alive but in misfortune...
Then that will become everyone's happyness.

Page 11.

King: That valley is where the sinners are thrown.
There is no peaceful grave for the ones who have commited sins.

They won't even rot, they just lie there, piling up on each other.
This is the fate of sinners.

Page 12.

King: That there is the most cursed place in our country.
You twins will just "be" there forever.

Choose. If you dislike that and want to be alone...

Just kill the other.(2)

Page 14.

King: Then, to the chasm with them.
They must never get out from there.

Until the end of the world.

Page 15.

Twin: There's no one here...
Who's alive.

The one who is alive...

Page 16.
I have to get out of here!
If I get out I can use my magic!
They told me that I will surpass the king's magic when grow up!
Then to another country...

Page 17.

Twin: We'll go there!
Together!
Fai!

Page 18.

Fai: Yuui...

Page 19.

Yuui: Why...
So many at once...

Did something happen in Valeria?

- The past opening up, the interlinked curses... the outcome of the tragedy?! -

NOTES:
(1) Hookay, allow me a little freedom here: the kanji reading actually says "older brother king", "younger brother king" and "imperial prince" as the younger king's son, but since there can't be two kings in a country, I choose to go with "princes" (like they would be called today in a monarchy), from which the older (hence the first) is the ruling king right now.
(2) Literally: "Kill one of you."

Also watched Bambino today which had the most surreal joke ever, with a convo like this:
A: "Do you know where this place is?"
B: "Um, well, Japan?"
Wasshi (xD): Well, you're right, it's not Hungary!"

Yes, I went "EEEEHHH?!". Loud. Seriously, who came up with this?! Half of this globe doesn't even know where we are! (Though Wasshi saying the line makes me ♥. Even if MoriEiji immediately goes: "You're not funny, dude." :D)

P.s: The play's about a gay host club, FYI. xD
