Clever, but not Art

Jan 02, 2012 10:07

This is not going to be a popular opinion, but having seen (not 'watched') Sherlock last night, and Who over Christmas, I am convinced that Moffatt (I always forget how many Fs and Ts he uses - and can't be arsed to look it up) is so enthralled with his own cleverness that he's forgotten that the object of the exercise is entertainment.

And by 'entertainment' I do not mean having most of your cast swanning about in the altogether.

And no matter how much I grin over the titles (though surely it should have been A Sandal in Belgravia ("The dog did do something in the nighttime, Watson, if you look you will find the evidence on your shoe.")) - The Speckled Blond indeed! I do think this is merely more fanservice (Look! A Prompt!).

At least all the hype is increasing sales of the original ACD books - which can only be a Good Thing (my 13 year old niece is currently raving about them).

Hmmm. Probably should not have started the new year with a rant. On the other hand...
