Explosive Research

Nov 02, 2011 18:33

Trip back to Wickes today for more glue for the floor tiles and some grout. Tomorrow is an agility day so probably won't get much more done on the re-flooring project until the weekend (we need to move more stuff out to make space for the next few courses of tiles).

As it's now November I need to get on with doing some brochures/handouts for the Supreme Cat Show (should probably book the train tickets to Birmingham too). The person who took over the newsletter has had to resign from the committee, so I've volunteered to do a stopgap document (yes, I'm nuts), since I've only one fanfic project with a November deadline.

However... there is nothing like doing research for giving you ideas for entirely different projects altogether.

Being late with the Holmes story I'd planned for Halloween I was looking up the Wikipedia article on Guy Fawkes Night to see whether I could shift the timetable within the fic to incorporate Victorian Bonfire night celebrations (I can - the 1606 Observance of 5 November Act was repealed in 1859, but celebrations continued, as they have to the present day).

However the additional information that the celebrations, in the form of Pope's Day, crossed the Atlantic and continued until our American colonies achieved independence (and up to 1817 in Salem), has started other bunnies. And I have filed the Ottery St Mary shenanigans for possible future Cabin Pressure use.

(And when is LJ going to fix this silly font that turns dashes into ¦'s before posting?)
