[Mayfield Elementary: History]

[Well, it's that time again. It's time for history class. Up until now, Mr. Kashihara has been very... creative about his lessons. Most of his lessons, in fact, end up with the existence of aliens. It's a good thing you're past the section with Cortez and the Mayans which he cites as the period where humanity fully ( Read more... )

[Perhaps the drone children will, but Lucifer will stay at his seat, thanks. Trying to not even acknowledge Nyarlathotep as he speaks.

In fact, he appears to be drawing something, instead.]

Are you not going to have any turkey, Louis?

[Nyarlathotep calls to Lucifer from his desk, but doesn't feel the need to get up just yet. This is a party, but there's nothing too strange with just wanting to draw for now.]

[No answer. Still just drawing.

To answer you, to acknowledge you, would be acknowledging your authority. And even in a classroom, he will not give you that, Crawling Chaos.]

[Oh, and we can't have any of that. Nyarlathotep stands from his seat and walks over to Louis. His eyes are focused on the boy's drawing. What could the King of Demons of all people possibly want to sketch?]

... Are you drawing anything interesting?

I think so, yes.

In fact, it's a picture for you.

[Hey look Nyarlathotep, it's you. Or rather, it's your Great Father form.

More specifically, that form at the moment of its destruction.]

[He looks at the drawing and... hm, well. He has to chuckle a little, of course. It's amusing that of all things, the little boy would draw that.]

You're quite the artist, Louis. Would you like me to hang that up on the wall? I think it deserves at least that.

I would like that.

I think it's rather inspirational.

... Can you tell me the story behind this drawing, Louis? There's always a story. And I'd like to hear from the artist himself.

[Nyarlathotep closes his eyes and listens to every word that Lucifer has to say. The story had quite a lot of detail to it from beginning to the very end. It detailed his origins, his meeting with Philemon, and of course, his very recent game in Sumaru City. And this details his ultimate fate, but...

He had not been beaten. It might "only" be a queen, yes, but that was a game he had ultimately won by distracting those pawns from his hidden pieces laid around. He had won. And he can still win again just the same. Through the same method. And he must. He must in order to...]

... Mm. That's a very interesting story. You're a very creative boy, Louis. It's quite amazing how you managed to capture a detailed story like that all in just a single illustration.

But... Did that game really end after the queen was destroyed?

No, Mr. Kashihara. It's just been delayed.

The game will be played again, and again, and again.

Until the other side finally destroys the queen.

[Nyarlathotep pulls the picture away from Lucifer's desk with a soft chuckle. He walks over to the front of the room and, grabbing some tape nearby, he takes a piece and posts the picture for all to see.

Nobody will know the story behind the drawing but them. That's perfectly fine. He will let that picture up there to give his class "inspiration". Then in time, he will crush those sentiments and... prove the Fallen Angel incorrect. Indeed, the game will restart again and again and again.

Nyarlathotep would be satisfied with this conclusion if it could show the futility in existence. It is then when he will finally claim victory. The game will never end against his favor. It can't.]

It's a very nice drawing, Louis. I'm sure the class would like to see more from our artist.

[Lucifer just smiles. As far as acts of defiance go, it isn't really much of one. More of an insult to him, even if Nyarlathotep didn't see it that way. Certainly, there was futility in existence, Lucifer wouldn't deny that. But it was a very specific futility, and only certain things fell into it. Things such as law, or order. Restraints. To restrain creation in any form, to punish it for growth. That in and of itself was futile. And to attempt to prove futility itself?

That too, ironically enough, was futile. Could not be done.

And so Lucifer just smiles, thinking of when he will finally prove his own point to Nyarlathotep. Will proclaim his own victory.]

Thank you, Mr. Kashihara.

Maybe I'll draw some more soon, then.
