too much walking and daily cups of milk tea

I'm back from way-too-short trip to hongkong! It really should be longer but another night there would mean more money out of my wallet - so we had to make do with the 4 days 3 nights. Anyway the start of the trip was plagued with a series of unfortunate events like me almost walking into the wrong gate, rolling Qb's luggage over the toes of a policeman and at KL airport we witnessed how one of those makeshift shelter things crashed  - check out the white one:

and oh, I managed to get past some security check at KL with the wrong passport (I took Qb's passport by accident and they let me pass) and only found out their mistake when Qb handed them the passport he was holding and saw that he was female - hahaha. Man, we must really look alike-.-

So after we landed on Day 1, we managed to find our way to the hotel (via my mum's instructions) to take an Airport Express to Kowloon station and then change to a free shuttle from there. We were initially impressed that the transportation system seemed so efficient and reasonably priced but changed our minds over the next few days when we had to walk up and down their giant interchange (known as Tsim Sha Tsui) at least twice a day. It's supposed to be like City hall except that it's so huge, it's probably orchard to Dhoby Ghaut  combined. And I swear, with all the walking we did at that station, I had more excercise there than I ever did in Singapore. So we spent our first night wandering around the night markets and waiting for Jez to arrive!

Hong Kong's night life is really crazy - even when it was close to 12am the streets were still flooded with people and the train services end at 1am there. So anyway, we spent the first night bravely exploring the streets without really knowing where we were going then randomly walking to a subway and then taking a train back to make a 50sec IDD call to jez that cost us at 8bucks:/

So we headed out close to lunch time on Sunday morning, only to realise the shops weren't really open yet. Managed to get a good haul of clothes at H&M because they were having sales! I bought a new bikini for less than 20SGD yepeee!!

Anyway, shopping aside, looking for food was a terrible task in HK. It's either because we're too noob or the area we were in really didn't have much food. We spent a long time looking for dimsum, egg tarts and till today, we still haven't found an authentic canto egg tart stall there! Jez managed to eat egg tarts only because she went to Macau.  So hunting for authentic hk-ish food was a pretty taxing task daily because we really had to walk A LOT.

Marcus is a certified camwhore.

Oh oh! And we saw a protest going on at Tsim Sha Tsui station! Being the typical Singaporean I am, I managed to whip out my camera and take a quick snapshot of it.

And then we headed to Disneyland on Monday which was tons of walking again. At least Hongkong's generally dry and cool despite the fact that it was pretty sunny that day! We took a break from Disney in the afternoon heading out to some factory outlets for more shopping before going back to catch the awesome fireworks at the disney castle! The view at night's really picturesque.

During this trip, the guys decided to be awesomely vain so we bought face masks to do at night. So they had their virgin experience with cheap 2 dollars face masks from Sasa which Marcus enjoyed thorooughly. If I knew he'd enjoy it so much, i'd have suggested that we buy him a gigantic facial package for his birthday:P Tsk, guys.

Anyway, I think i really need a much longer holiday. 4 days is wayyyyy too short. We didn't even get to travel to mainland hongkong! But longer trips = more money. So I really gotta start working first - and working means tuition later at 3pm. If only money could fall from the sky.

holidays!
