5 Points of Interest

WORK: The shop has been pretty slow. We opened near the end of wedding season, so most of the people coming in and out of the store are just nosey people wondering what the inside looks like, or M.O.B.'s looking for a dress to wear to their son or daughters wedding the next week. (nothing like waiting until the last minute). We've done pretty well so far though so I can't complain. We've done about 11 weddings in the two months we have been open, and even serviced an 11 bridal party cancellation. That whole situation came as quite a shock to me, but I guess people call off their weddings all the time now that I think about it. It's sad really. People are in such a hurry these days to get married, and have a party, and be the center of the universe that they're willing to overlook such "minor" details as "my finace is a fool". Oh well, obviously not my problem. It only becomes my problem when they want their money back for their mistake =) In other work news, the bridal expo that I am planning is coming along. I've spent the last week on the phone with numerous vendors, getting confirmations that they will in fact be reserving a booth. I'm even looking at reserving an ice sculptorist to put on a live show in the parking lot. That should be cool, I'm excited about that. I have a meeting in a few days with a charity that I want to sponsor the show, and I still have YET to get to Dundee and view The Milk Pail (the hosting venue). Ahhh, there's just not enough time in a day. I'll get there...someday!

LOVE: It's FABULOUS living in the same city as my girlfriend. I never imagined I'd see a day when I can call her up and she's at my house in a matter of minutes. We can be "real" girlfriends for once. It's a nice feeling! The communication barriers between us are still a bit frustrating, but I'm working through it and trying to be patient. I just wish sometimes I didn't have to ignore situations, and wait for them to "go away", because they don't go away. I guess I just thought that after a year, we'd be more comfortable with each other. I guess I just have to wait a little bit longer.

FRIENDS: Erin is one mile away, my "girls" all came down last weekend for an evening out on the Milwaukee town, and I was finally able to play catch up with Brian the other night over a martini and food at the Hi-Hat. Not to mention my rooomate Nikki is FABULOUS, boy and girl upstairs (Ryan and Laura) are great neighbors, and virtually ANYONE I want to hang out with is just a phone call away, and a half hour drive. I never imagined I'd be so happy to be back in Wisconsin.

FAMILY: The 'renties sold our house =( They have to be out October 3rd so my parents have been doing a lot of pre-move preparations. They've sold my entire bedroom set already, as well as a number of random items throughout the house. They even got rid of my dogs. I dont' want to talk about it, it makes me too sad. For the time being they're moving in the apartments above my mom's store, which are actually quite spacious, roomy, and private. I'm excited for them to be up there. I really like them.

LIFE: The world is NOT going to hell people. I hate what the media does to us. It makes us paranoid and scared. Maybe if they'd focus on some positive things, instead of the constant spouts of catastrophe and chaos, people would be a bit less hesitant about the state of the world. As for what is going on, I just heard a representative from the Red Cross speak on the Bob and Brian show (side note: BEST morning show on the entire planet. 102.9 The Hog...if you're not in the listening area, you can listen to their morning show on the internet as well. You should tune in. They're HILARIOUS) about how in a few weeks they're going to be starting recruiting events to get volunteers to sign up, and head down to the Gulf Coast in a relief mission for 3 week intervals. He said he's already been inundated with phone calls about people wanting to go down there and help, as well as people wanting to take in families who are without homes. It made me really happy to hear such news. There really are some kind, caring, compassionate people in the world. I really wish I had the resources to go down there for a volunteer mission. I guess in the mean time I'll just stick to my little donations. Every little bit counts right?

And that's it. That's about the big news in my life right now. I'm running a bit behind. My phone is dead, and I have to get to work pretty soon here. We have a lot of preparations to do. We're planning a Christmas float for the Christmas Parade (it's going to be FABULOUS) and Gary and I are planning out the windows for a display we're doing at Interlaken resort in Lake Geneva so I'm a busy girl this morning. Plus I still have to work on The Milk Pail stuff and call a bunch of companies about more sponsorship and advertising opportunities. Uy...does it ever stop? =) I love it though.

Hope all are well. Oh and just a random thought. My dad and I were discussing a few weeks ago "all-time" best Television characters. I decided Kramer, from Seinfeld takes the cake hands down. But I wondered what others thought? So here's my question to the LJ world. "Who IS the all-time best television character ever created?"
