Goodbye Chicago

Aug 30, 2005 13:52

This weekend, I said goodbye to Chicago. I was sad about leaving, sure. After all, it was the place I have called home for the past three years of my life. Three years. So much has changed.

I fell in love
I fell out of love
I obtained my bachelors degree
I discovered a life-long friendship in a person who had never really been that far from me
I followed a band
I turned 21 and partied my ass off for the remainder of that year
I fulfilled a long time fantasy...twice
I lost my grandmother
and lost a best-friend
I trained for, ran, and finished the Chicago Marathon
I studied abroad
I developed a 6:30 am bed-time coinciding with a designated Sunday "Date Day"
I drank with the boys of boystown, the girls of Andersonville, shopped with the kids of Wicker Park, and had coffee with the socialites of Lincoln Park and the Gold Coast.
The "el" became my main form of transportation
and I became a Cubs fan

It was a great three years and I'll miss it always. But as I moved into my place on Warren Ave, and walked the streets of Brady I realized how happy I was to be back in the area amidst my friends and family again. My apartment feels warm and cozy as I open the door and see my new roomate curled up on the couch watching a movie. I love the sound of the traffic on the nearby streets, and the sound of the music from the bars in the evening. I love our big beautiful porch and the fact there is always a new face just around the corner. I love that I can actually live in my bedroom, without feeling claustaphobic and I love that within 15 minutes time I can be lost in those eyes that I love so much. I'm so happy to be back in Milwaukee. I can't wait to see what these next three years bring to me.
