The Little Mermaid & the Happy Prince

I think it's safe to say that most of us know some version of the story of the little mermaid. But what is more memorable to me is a story that was on a Reader's Digest tape along with "The Little Mermaid". The Happy Prince is about the love of a swallow for the statue of prince. It's a sweet and heartbreaking tale that touched me as a child and I have not forgotten.

I have begun writing a story about a mermaid and a prince, set in Egypt. Any book recommendations of Egyptian history/or fiction to get me in the right mindset would be much appreciated.
