Nymphadora received her letter for Hogwarts the summer after she turned eleven. Ted believed his daughter to be prime Hufflepuff material. Andromeda agreed but kept the reasons for her agreement to herself. The Sorting Hat did end up putting Dora into Hufflepuff. She was smart. She could have gone into Ravenclaw. Dora was also very brave and would have made a fine Gryffindor. Slytherin wasn’t an option, she wouldn’t be happy in that house. In the end, she was sorted into Hufflepuff because she was loyal first and foremost, a hard worker too.
In her Third Year, she tried out for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team as a Beater. She didn’t make the starting lineup but she did land a back up position. As good as she was at sending a bludger sailing over to her opponent; there were better players than her. It wasn’t until her Fifth Year, that she finally started and could officially say that she was part of the team. Tonks took great pride in her work. It gave her great pleasure to knock someone off their broom; it filled her with glee (maybe a little too much glee).
Also in her Fifth Year, Dora had to come to a few decisions regarding her future. Despite the nearly continuous ability to misbehave, she was a very good student. She was sure that it frustrated a few of her professions that she got more Os than Es on her coursework. She was especially sure that this was the case in Potions where she just knew that Professor Snape hated her. That hate didn’t stop her from making good graves, however. She could have gone into almost any field that she wanted but Tonks only had one profession in mind. Nymphadora wanted to be an Auror. She wanted to put away the bad guys and her motivation was a combination of personal feelings and desires. It would be great fun, she thought.
Becoming an Auror required the best grades possible and Nymphadora applied herself when it came time to take her O.W.L.s. She received an O in every class except for Potions where she received an E. Tonks repeated this feat for her N.E.W.T.s. Dora became one of the youngest witches to ever be accepted into the Auror program. The standards were so high that the following year after Tonks was accepted into the program, no other witches and wizards were accepted.
