Ted and Andromeda had an argument not an hour after Nymphadora’s birth. Their argument was about her first name. Ted did not like it and while she wouldn’t say where she came up with her inspiration, Andromeda would not change her mind. Their daughter’s name would be Nymphadora and that was that. Ted, realizing he was fighting a losing battle decided that he would simply call her Dora. It was easier that way.
It was obvious within the first few hours of Dora’s birth that she was different. Her hair, what little she had, kept shifting colors. One of the Healers at St. Mungoes recognized Nymphadora for what she was. Metamorphmaguses were extremely rare, rarer than Animaguses. When she grew older, she’d be able to control it. Until then, her parents were told to accept that her hair and possibly other features were liable to change at will. It was apparent within her first few days of learning how to crawl and walk, that Dora was also a bit klutzy. She could trip over anything. She could knock things over with ease. Andromeda had to put a cushioning charm on many of the items in their house.
While Nymphadora spent many weekends and holidays with her paternal grandparents, visits from Andromeda’s family were mostly lacking. Uncle Alphard and her cousin Sirius visited a lot but they were the exceptions instead of the rule. Her mother’s eldest sister, Bellatrix, often sent them the worst letters and howlers imaginable. Bellatrix even resorted to threatening them in person. And as such, when the first wizarding war broke out, Andromeda, Ted, and Nymphadora had been forced to go into hiding. They remained there until the war was over. It had been little comfort to Andromeda that her sister and husband were locked in Azkaban. Her favorite cousin, Sirius, had been found guilty of murder and was also sentenced to spend the rest of his life in Azkaban prison.
