[After a bit of static, there's the sound of a door being opened and then a woman's voice.] "You didn't show up at the- you're brooding again."

[After a marked period of silence, a man answers, neither rude nor honest sounding.] "Sorry."

[There's another period of silence.] "Do you want me to go?"

[There is a rustling of pages and a small thud, a ( Read more... )

[There's the light sound of someone clearing his throat.]

While I hate to interrupt this touching moment, I thought I'd let you know that you've little reason to worry anymore.

[Stepping back. As though scorched. Absolutely baffled, and looking around for the source of the voice.]

[After a slight gasping-choking sound of surprise he turns to the Radio.]

Gene?! How did you just-- Oh- Christ.

Yup, just woke up. Let me tell you, I've got sand in places you don't even want to know about.

But hey, like I said. Don't let me butt in. You two crazy kids just carry on. [Nevermind that he's completely ruined the mood.] You may want to keep it down, though. Apparently the Sphere has ears.

It's good to have you back Gene.

[Sounding completely unruffled. Not a trace of fluster at all. The very epitome of calm and composed.]

I suggest you take a shower to help you deal with the sand.

Thanks, Target.

[So good at the whole 'keep calm and carry on' deal. It's admirable, really.]

Believe me, that's at the top of my "to-do" list.

[Your attempts to get rid of him are transparent, Neil.]

[You know what the downside to reconnecting with your little brother is, Neil? Sibling annoyance.

He would be more than happy to leave the two in peace, but he has to needle a little.]

Oh, I plan to. But then, I figured I'd stay tuned into these nifty little gadgets for a bit, just to catch up on just how much I've missed for the past... however long.

[Well, that sobers him right up.]

Damn...

I, ah. Thanks.

[There's a bit of a pause before he adds.] If I could help it, I wouldn't have been out that long. [It's kind of his way of saying he's sorry for causing the worry. But Gene isn't much for apologizing for what he can't help so... yeah.]

[In the face of the sobering news and the new radio silence, Gene will be leaving the two to their moment.]

[You two are emotionally retarded. Have an eyeroll and a finger squeeze, Neil.]

What happened, Gene? How did you end up like that? Was it the hourglasses again?

[Hey, he was trying to be kind of respectful for once! ...Though, yes, that doesn't do anything to change the fact that he and his brother are indeed emotionally retarded.]

Not exactly. I got a little gift, A Haro no bigger than a baseball, if that. Not long after I picked it up, the sand started pouring out and that was it. Basically, I was set up.

Oh dear, that does sound unfortunate.

[If you listen carefully, Gene, you might be able to hear something like... fingers drumming on a table very faintly in this pattern:

... . - / ..- .--. ..--.. / -... -.-- / .-- .... --- -- ..--..]
