I'm sorry you keep having terrible luck with roommates, my darling :(
But I'm glad to see you back. I was just thinking of you the other day because I was talking about FF8 with someone and they kept saying "Quisty" and I was immediately reminded of pink fades and only a guy on odd Tuesdays. XD
I pretty much decided never again. I don't really care what I have to do, I'm not living with roommates again. I've been screwed over a whole lot of times between my family and roommates over the last couple of years, and I just don't have the energy or the strength to do it again. This time kind of broke me. I took a 'stranger' technically into my house and put them on my lease and took care of them for an entire year, and she actually didn't so much as say thank you when she left. She complained about me to her friends, instead.
Hahaha. I actually forgot all about the odd Tuesdays. That explains a lot.
I can understand that. And I've been in the position of being screwed by a roommate who didn't want to pay their bills, multiple times. I don't blame you for deciding you're not having it in any way.
The sad thing is it's really not even about the money. I mean, I"m upset about that yeah, but what really hurt was all the backstabbing despite how much I bent over backwards for her, and the fact that she was supposed to be my friend and deliberately did so many things to hurt me. Who acts like that?
People are very strange in how they react to things, I have found. Sometimes maybe they don't realize what they're doing because their own version of reality is so wonked, and sometimes they do and are just sociopaths. Neither way is fun. I don't have a better answer for you than that. :/ I'm so sorry, love.
Or maybe, if it has to be a roommate for financial reasons, take someone who has nothing to do with fandom and who actually doesn't need the internet either. Like some really serious exchange student who is only there for a year and spends all his time studying and sitting in the library.
That would probably be the only exception. I'm wary of strangers in my apartment, though. This most recent roommate was me taking a risk and I knew it, and it did end up blowing up in my face, so I'm not really keen on trying again.
I don't think I'll have to worry about it unless something bad happens (who knows, it might, I'm having problems at my job right now because of illness), but as of right now I actually turned the extra bedroom into a workshop of sorts. I've been making homemade perfume and bath products to see if I could make a little extra money on the side doing so.
UNfortunately, my 'roommate' decided to take/use a lot of expensive ingredients I needed before she left, and I've been too ill the last couple of months to do much with it.
I did come up with a recipe for homemade baby diaper cream that my sister has been raving about nonstop and begged me to make her some more of, though.
Judging from how fond the parents in the parenting101 and breastfeeding comms are of natural and selfmade stuff, I think the diaper cream could have good chances to find fans. Although you know that there will always be the one stingy person who asks for the recipe "because then we could make it ourselves" (Duh. Yeah, then come up with the right mix by yourself, too. :P)
And yeah, I was thinking of the sort of exchange student where the actual exchange happens through an agency including insurance and everything should the person turn out to be a destructive or nonpaying person. I'm also very wary of taking in strangers! Couchsurfing wouldn't be for me at all, either...

I'm pretty sure she's on the pathological liar and sociopath side. I'm working on a list of insane stories right now.
