Palladium Baggy Canvas Boue boots

These check-lined hiking boots from Palladium make a single appearance in A Good Man Goes to Wear. This entire outfit is exceptional in the sense that it's not clothing Amy chose for herself, but what was provided to her during imprisonment. However, I think the boots are quite close to the kind of thing Amy would wear.  The check lining, the high tops - they are in line with her other outfits. I do think it's weird footwear to be given by the Silence, though. I mean, when you go to hospital they don't give you hiking boots, do you?

Palladium is not a brand I was familiar with, given I am not usually disposed to this kind of shoe. On search I believe they retailed originally somewhere in the $AUD130 range, this is comparing to other boots they still sell similar to this. The Boue design is still in production though the colours have changed. A pair that is alike this design in every way save some darker colouration is also around so please check carefully before purchase.  The SA pair has stone-coloured canvas and white soles.

These boots are not difficult to find. I only started looking a few weeks ago and found dozens of them, but they were all in the wrong size and in the wrong hemisphere. It's very expensive to ship shoes and because I wasn't in love with these and they appear so briefly, I did not want to spend much on shipping. Fortunately, and kind of by accident, I found a pair in Australia. Given the sheer quantity of these still circulating I think production of this boot ceased fairly recently. I have found that even beaten-up pairs are priced quite expensively on resale sites so there may be some collector value in this for people who collect Palladium boots, I don't know. I have also however, seen it "for sale" on some sites that look less than reputable so ... buyer beware?

The boot is a canvas high top. It can be worn like Amy, with the laces done all the way up the ankle, or it can be worn with the tongue and top part folded down to show the red check lining. This is how it was marketed by Palladium and how every pair I've seen online has been shown. I have included a picture below to illustrate. The quality seems quite good and they feel nice and sturdy on. I actually sized down, because the opportunity to obtain a pair in Australia made it worth the risk. They actually fit me sort of okay, though I suspect this is because they have already been worn in. I would not recommend sizing down if the pair is brand-new.

Given the number of these I found in only the last three or so weeks, I would say this is one of the very few easily obtainable Amy items still out there. You may even be able to find it new.

EDIT 25 SEPTEMBER 2021: So these really were a bit too tight on me and I wanted to wear them outside of cosplay.  So I started kind of looking a bit again and managed to find these a size UP from my usual size, rather than down.  These fit me much better.  They're great in terms of width but slightly too long - so I can pretty safely say now that these run true to size.

I can now also say these are really comfy to walk in.  The heel is kind of springy which is great for impact.

However, I should warn that the white rubber had yellowed in both pairs of shoes.  My first set were very horribly yellowed, and I whitened these myself with some shoes whitener.  The second pair were in better condition and I won't be whitening them, but just something to bear in mind when purchasing that if they've been worn before they're likely to have some yellow tinge to them.  The pair pictured in this post are my first pair, pre-whitening.  I'll try to remember to take some pictures of my new pair which are in better nick.
