Yeah, remember how in
this entry two years ago I said this was hideous and implied I wasn't interested in obtaining this?
Well ... yeah. I found it online and thought, what the hell. I'll send the seller an offer and if they accept, great. If not, no terrible loss. And the seller accepted so I find myself in possession off this jumper after all.
In The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe, Amy appears at the very end wearing this jumper by Ralph Lauren with her black docs, pink tights from The Curse of the Black Spot and, presumably, the Superdry skirt. She also wears her season 5 initial necklace. There's only one picture to support knowledge of the full outfit, which is a papped or fan shot taking during the filming.
Okay, so the jumper. It's from the men's range and is comprised of 77% cotton, 13% angora rabbit hair and 10% cashmere, which makes it both incredibly soft and heavy. I can see how, if you lived in a northern hemisphere climate, this would make a great Christmas jumper.
While the one worn by Karen in the show is oversized it's not terribly baggy, suggesting Karen may have worn a size up. Mine is a large and pretty enormous, mainly in the sleeves, which I will have to double back in wear as they run at least one handswith too long off my arm.
This originally retailed for at least £300 and, given the designer tag, it is a more expensive cosplay item and you may suffer competition from the non-cosplay market on resale sites. It does not pop up terribly often, however it has a red counterpart which always seems to be available on eBay and there are a number of very similar patterns made by Ralph Lauren in the same style. I do advise looking very, very carefully at the patterns as the variations are often small. They made a number of very similar blue Christmas jumpers.
Alternately, you could find an alt - there are lots of these of varying quality and price for sale. If you are interested in an alt, your best bet to find a good match is around the silly season - or directly after to get a bargain.
I like this jumper a lot more in person than I did just seeing it in the show. It really is lovely quality and I like baggy jumpers I can wear with little skirts. I'll just be celebrating Christmas in July to get some wear out of this - that's not such a bad thing, and certainly better than sweltering in it in December!
The water pistol has also been identified - I believe the brand is Drenchers, though it is no longer in production.
