Colin & I went to Santa Barbara this weekend in honor of our 11-mo. anniversary, Valentine's Day, President's Day weekend, and to see
Aqualung.
Despite getting drunk and walking along the beach and pier, Santa Barbara was a bust. There is nothing to do there unless you're into the bar scene and neither of us really are. Also, because C's only 20, we couldn't get into the Aqualung show (which was pretty much the only reason I really wanted to go in the first place) and I wasted about fifteen minutes of my life arguing with the club owner. I really don't appreciate being patronized. We ended up going home early instead of staying the extra night that we had planned.
We did, however, head to
Solvang & I fucking loved it there. It's this little Danish town in Central California that's really tourist-y but perfect for a little day trip. We walked around the town and visited their famous bakeries, had breakfast (whereupon we discovered the genius of pancake balls, i.e.
Aebleskiver!), and just enjoyed the town in general.
Afterwards, we drove over to Quicksilver Ranch, which is a ranch specialising in miniature horses. It was ridiculously happy. We ended up seeing a miniature pony and it's miniature mommy horse. I was totally in love.
The more time I spend in small beach towns (Santa Barbara, Puerto Escondido, etc.), the more I realize that I really need to be around the hustle and bustle of a big thriving metropolitan city. I need to be in Los Angeles, where there is shit to do and shit happening everywhere and people just thriving and not just sitting. So all in all, the weekend wasn't a total loss but I'll be damned if I'm going back to Santa Barbara voluntarily anytime soon.
