I usually watch the Academy Awards because I like films, but not this year. I knew all the actors and actresses would be using this time as a platform to spew their political statements. Now, I am not totally gung ho for this war. I think war is an awful thing, but there are times when it is necessary. I am, however, a little saddened by this one as we weren't attacked, and I think we could have waited a little longer until we found some real evidence, and then everyone would be on our side. Saddam Hussein is a monster who gassed his own people, yes that is true, but what about the things that happen in Africa? People there are getting their arms cut off (women and children, even babies!) and we do nothing about that. What about the millions of people who died in North Korea. Not to mention that North Korea has nuclear bombs. All that said I think we are in this war and I support all the troops they are just doing their jobs. I hope this war is over soon with few causalties on both sides. With all that said I dislike it when people use entertainment functions to voice their views on politics (unles they are doing it through the film or music. Then that is what I came to see). But to be forced to listen to someone else's political opinions because I am in the audience or some other purpose is vile. I am not even against antertainers having political opinions, if I can have an opiniont they, right? I am just annoyed they fore me to listen to theirs when I am expecting entertainment. On another note (
Daisy702 mentioned this in her journal as well) I am sickened that that pedophile and rapist Polanski won an Oscar. He is a criminal and should not even have been nominated. In this country children are treated as second class citizens and so many are abused by those who are supposed to love and care for them as well as strangers and casual aquaintances and so often nothing is done! This makes me so angry. This award spits in the face of children and I for one am appalled, simply appalled!
