Chapter VI
He saw it, no, he felt it.
From the first time he saw him, he knew he was in love. Never mind that it happened years ago. He loved him, and that's a fact. It would stay like that forever ... wouldn't it?
Hyukjae betrayed him, he destroyed the trust that Donghae built for him. The latter thought that they would last till they grew older - when their hair turn white and gray, when their teeth start to fall apart, or even when their bones would be cracking and all those dances would be impossible. Like back then, where hindrances weren't a problem, in those times when they were still free and did everything they could do. Like little children and their story books, imagining that they were the princes or princesses, astronauts floating on space, and what-not.
But Hyukjae … where was Hyukjae? Why didn't he even bother to look for Donghae and ask for forgiveness? Even if he didn't ask for it, Donghae would give it voluntarily - only if Hyukjae looked for him... But he didn't, and it hurt Donghae. A lot.
There are things in life that we couldn't see, but with the fact that we feel it, we believe in it. Certainly, this happens in reality, and there are things that we just can’t really see and comprehend. However, the mere fact that it can be felt, make us believe in it - and love is an example, though unexplainable, hazy and vague; Platonic, romantic, or patriotic. Whatever it may be, it exists and we feel it.
After all, it is love that makes us happy and contented in life.
Donghae roamed the halls of their school, not even bothering to come to his classes. He didn't care if anyone would see him and report him to the administrators. The consequences that he'll probably receive cannot be compared to the depression he feels now.
Tucking his hands in his pockets, his thoughts wandered somewhere faraway. Unconsciously, he started to hum a song. He doesn't know why, but the song suddenly made him remember the days of him and Hyukjae. All those times when he and Hyukjae were still smiling and looking ever-so-lovingly at each other. Their surroundings were inexistent - like they were the only ones who existed in this world; in their own world.
“I laugh for no reason. I get happy for no reason...” he started to sing, but soon trailed off. He mumbled, trying to get the next lines out as his eyes were already brimming with tears. As he sang, his voice came out to be forced because he was still fighting the urge to let the tears fall. “It’s so soft - everything is aromatic. Your voice is already like a spell cast on me.” He paused for a while and sighed before deciding to continue, “I thank you - it’s the first I felt like this,” he looked up, trying to contain the tears. When he decided it was useless, he looked straight and sighed, “Don’t say anything and please hug me.”
Donghae meant everything he said. Everything that came out from his mouth - every phrase, every sentence, he meant it. In all honesty, he just wanted to feel his Hyukjae back in his arms. But after everything that had happened, he wasn't so sure if time would bring his princess back.
“Please accept my heart...” he sang with his hoarse voice from the lump that was made a few seconds ago. Slowly, tears fell one-by-one, wetting his cheeks in a gentle manner. He didn't mind though. It was getting harder to keep it in, and no one's around anyway, so no one will notice. He couldn't care less about it ... yet. “Every morning I open my eyes and drink the morning coffee … It feels just like a dream,” now he was grasping onto the tune and tempo of the song. He was singing differently than a while ago. He swallowed the rising lump on his throat and took in a deep breath. “On days I feel blue, you hold me. I promise that moment I swear. Will you be that kind of love to me? This is a love song for you.”
“Whether you really don’t know, or you just can’t catch it. Or if you know how much my heart is burning. My heart is only you, but you only look at other people. You don’t know how I feel so much. Don’t say anything and please kiss me.”
He stopped everything he was doing when he arrived at the entrance of the staircase leading to the rooftop and contemplated on whether he'll enter or not. He took a while to decide before he put his shivering hand on the door knob and gingerly turned it. Upon closing the door, he continued the song and ascended the flight of stairs.
“Please accept my love. Every morning I open my eyes and drink the morning coffee, it feels just like a dream. On days I feel blue, you hold me. I promise that moment I swear. Will you be that kind of love to me? This is love is for you.”
It was during the bridge part when he reached his destination. He gulped as he took in his surroundings. The breeze left a pure, chaste kiss on his cheeks as he made his way to the place where he and Hyukjae always hanged out. Aside from the back of their school, this was usually “their place” too. No one seemed to go here so everything stayed peaceful and quiet. You can see the whole school from here and the place is very beautiful. It's a mystery why the place is forgotten, though; yet the sole reason why they both stayed there is that.
Sitting on the only table there, he looked at the vast, blue sky above him, adoring how the clouds would slowly move like how they would usually do. He smiled sheepishly and continued with the song he was previously singing, “I promise that I’ll never change; I promise you eternity. Your two cheeks blush. You shyly lower your head. I will…” he paused in realization, the song finally dawning on him. His eyes widened in astonishment in what he felt.
He loves Hyukjae. Not just any simple like or infatuation … he really loves Hyukjae.
Crap everything that had happened. His princess may be right; maybe he really was drugged. Hyukjae couldn't possibly do that to him, right? The latter loves him too much to betray him. The feeling is mutual, after all, and he knows he won’t be doing the same voluntarily. It can't possibly end here right? He beamed and continued the song happily, “...love you forever.”
“Every day in the same bed; every day dreaming the same dreams yeah. A sweet kiss with you. Please only love me. I will promise you. I Promise That Moment I Swear. Please accept my heart; this is a love song for you.”
He stood up smiling, and headed for the stairs, stretching his arms upwards and sighing contentedly.
He stopped in his tracks when a thought came up to him. There's still a problem …
With everything he said to Hyukjae a while ago ... He would be considered lucky to hear a single word from the said lad.
Donghae was taken aback. He knew that the second they both meet, Hyukjae would cry. That can't be... no … no!
Donghae sprinted to Hyukjae's class. Silently thanking his school mates for being in their respective classrooms at the time and not blocking the hallways. “Chemistry, right?” he thought to himself and ran faster to the laboratory. “Donghae, you're such an idiot!”
But somehow, fate is not with his side now, and certainly, time must be laughing his ass off while mocking Donghae with mocking gazes.
