i take very long showers

seeing that nobody has responded to my last post, i guess that's the end of my attempt to engage in the livejournal gaming hobby. it's all good, though.

yes, it's definitely been a while, and since--well, even before--the last update, a lot has gone down. i don't really know how this entry will fare--i promised that a mega-update was on its way, but in all honesty, this could end up being either very long or very short. here's a recap:

TWO THURSDAYS AGO:
after having bluvie in the weekend before and kaitlin in a couple nights earlier, kate levinson came in for the night! i was so excited to see her, and it was so strange to come to terms with the fact that i hadn't seen her since DECEMBER. literally. we had some trouble finding each other at penn station--it's actually somewhat difficult to navigate your way around it's confusing levels--but eventually, we accomplished what had become such a complicated task. we didn't do too much--we pretty much just walked around the city, got some dinner, got too much (but still absolutely delicious and worthwhile) dessert at serendipity, and continued our way around manhattan--but it was great just catching up with her. she showed me some of her pictures from uganda, told me all about her experiences there, the people she met, the difficulties with transitioning back to american life she's facing--and talking with her about everything, whether it uganda or the upcoming semester at ithaca, was fantastic. i was so happy to just spend some time with her. we're both in the middle of our park scholar brochure interviews and photo shoots--as odd as that may sound--but in typical kate fashion, she's also shooting a documentary and hitting up dallas for a week or so. i'm excited to hear more.

FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND:
i went over to kaitlin's for part of the weekend since her friend stacy was having an 80's party. i was excited to meet her friends and get smashed, but at the same time, especially upon my arrival, i was somewhat apprehensive at how the night would pan out. EVERYONE was decked out in 80's attire, and while kaitlin had mentioned that to me previously, i was stubborn about it (and i also simply couldn't find anything). it was a great time, though--everybody who drank got wrecked and ended up in the pool--and all of her friends were really welcoming. i went back over there on the fourth of july to watch the fireworks, so it was nice to see and to spend time with kaitlin and all of her friends again. strangely enough, kaitlin and i were the only ones drinking that night.

cutler came in for the weekend as well, but unfortunately, due to scheduling and miscommunication problems, we didn't have time to meet up. i did explain to him before then that it was a bad weekend to come in, though.

THURSDAY:
a very slow day at the internship. i felt like ashley and i had been busy for a maximum of 30 minutes. not only did we spend most of the time reading and watching "made" on MTV, but we also got the opportunity to screen a final cut of "the great raid," which is set to be released in august. we didn't really enjoy it much, but on the bright side, we ordered food in from the wow cafe. i enjoyed their sandwiches.

i took a short nap after coming home then left to meet chris at the port authority. again, there were navigation problems with finding each other, but after we got through them, it was great to see him again. it was hard to believe that nearly a month has passed since cape cod, but both of us were especially excited to note that we have nearly a month until life in the T10 starts up. we walked around the city for a little, got dinner, and talked about the little things (which ultimately are more meaningful than everything else in life). we sat in union square for a little bit then met kaitlin at penn station a little after midnight. we continued to walk around the city (closely cradling kaitlin's pillow with us), picked up a couple snacks, then crashed back here at the apartment. the weekend had begun.

FRIDAY:
we lounged for a bit in the apartment, showered, then headed to the upper west side. we walked around, picked up a couple umbrellas since it was raining, and had lunch at the whole foods market at columbus circle. the whole foods market is the heavenly equivalent of serendipity for all food- and eating-lovers, and my zeal for it came back to bite me in the ass later that night.

afterward, we took the train out to long island and lounged for almost five hours in kaitlin's room. i faced a lactose attack, but among other things, as we prepared for a quality night at a local bar, we got a call from danielle. on her way back from florida, we had suggested--with very high hopes--that she come out to spend the weekend with us. to our surprise, danielle called shortly after getting off the phone to tell us that she was! we had to pick her up at the ferry early the next morning.

we hit up the bar later that night, and thanks to stacy, we ended up getting quality drinks--each saturated with alcohol--through her bartender cousin each time we went up. again, those of us who drank ended up getting trashed, so it was the perfect setting for us to unwind and to have a good time.

SATURDAY:
we got up early to meet danielle at the ferry. once we had arrived, danielle called so that we could all begin the tedious task of finding each other, but as chris and i turned a corner, we saw her standing amidst a bunch of other ferry passengers. at that point, it was pure excitement. danielle is someone i would see everyday, and right then, i realized that i hadn't seen her for nearly two months. before she left for florida, we were hoping to plan something out--whether it she coming to the city or me heading up to connecticut--so i was excited that, at the last minute, something like this happened. i would've been upset if i didn't get to see her at all while i was out here.

we spent an hour or so at kaitlin's, took the train back to the city, and returned to the apartment. luckily, my roommates were out of the apartment for the weekend, so having everybody yielded no problems. i took a shower--a ridiculously long one, which everybody apparently just realized is characteristic of me (i suppose i can't deny it, either)--and then chris, danielle, and i headed out. we walked around the city, both lower and upper manhattan, relaxed in battery park, explored central park, and then finally got dinner at a restaurant right near serendipity. kaitlin and her sister, kim, came in later that night, and as planned, we all enjoyed dessert at serendipity after walking around dylan's candy store for a short time. we came back to the apartment, relaxed, and watched some friends episodes before heading to bed.

SUNDAY:
we had to get up early because kaitlin's parents offered to take us out to brunch. all five of us--including me--took short showers, got ready quickly, and made it to the restaurant--which was conveniently located nearby--in time. kaitlin and her family left to see "rent" while chris, danielle, and i headed back to the apartment. we went to the port authority to drop chris off at his bus stop, but beforehand, we chilled in an eatery to kill some time.

after chris left, danielle and i had made plans to see "rent" through a raffle they do before every show--tickets in the first two rows are raffled off at $20 each an hour and a half before every show--but to our dismay, there was no 7:00 show that night, even though the outdoor sign had stated so. we considered seeing another show, but the only we were interested in was "chicago," and unfortunately, it was too expensive. we have plans to come back to catch a show, though. instead, we spent some time in bryant park, met up with kaitlin, relaxed even more, relocated to washington square, got dinner, then returned to the apartment.

later on, i learned more about how girls function and dropped my cell phone in a puddle. more to come on that later.

MONDAY:
we got up, showered, got dressed, and headed to penn station so that kaitlin could drive danielle back to the ferry. after they left, i came back to the east village, ran a couple of errands, and cleaned my room and the apartment.

there were a couple of plumbing issues with the toilet--enough to worry me. i plunged at the toilet for an hour and a half and waited for it to settle for two hours, but nothing--absolutely nothing--worked. i called my parents, i called a plumber, i knocked on my neighbor's door. i didn't know what exactly to do. i wasn't sure if i should contact the landlord (and if so, how would i go about that?), so my only option was to wait for somebody else to come home. eventually, tom came back from work, looked at the problem, and suggested that we brave it out and continue plunging. at this point, the toilet was overflowing. we laughed at the situation and ultimately were able to handle it ourselves at a very low cost (another plunger, a mop, sponges, and lots of bleach and disinfectant), so fortunately we didn't have to resort to outrageous plumbing fees. besides solving the toilet problem, it was great to finally get to know tom. i had gotten to nick and his girlfriend very well, but that wasn't the case with tom. he's a little bit less outgoing than nick, but after the plumbing incident, i've come to know that tom's actually a very cool, chill, and funny guy. now that the comfort level is more established and understood, it's less quiet when just the both of us around. i'm glad to know that i've got two great roommates. again, as with everything else this summer, i just got really lucky with this place.

TUESDAY:
another fairly slow day at the internship. we made a bunch of copies of tape, labeled tape, ran some things to harvey weinstein's assistants, and continued the other activities that have become characteristic of the internship. luckily, during our downtime yesterday, alex and i were able to screen a final cut of "derailed"--the clive owen-jennifer aniston film set for an october release. alex said she had seen it before, but she mentioned that she was unable to see it in its entirety. "derailed" was somewhat cliche, but in the end, i enjoyed it.

alex and i got lunch and continued to stretch our lunch break far past its limit to make the day go faster. later on, we were able to just relax and talk with meg digiovanni, one of the editors in miramax's post-production department. meg's awesome, and ironically, she graduated from ithaca and worked with jesse when he interned at miramax a couple years ago. we talked about the industry, finding a job, the difference between new york and los angeles, and everything related to that. more than anything, she really inspired us and opened our eyes to the possibilities within the entertainment industry. she even offered to write me a recommendation letter for the los angeles program if i needed one. i hope to keep in touch with a lot of people at miramax--josh, meg, zach, alex, and ashley--because, in all honesty, just working with them has been a great time.

i came home, relaxed, reorganized my old and new music--i stole some of kaitlin's music and bought a couple of CDs--and watched "you can count on me." i loved it; it's simple, real, and sweet. it's a film you really feel. one of my favorites, i think.

TODAY:
nothing. i got up late, ate some cereal, spoke with christie cox, who interviewed me for a profile she's writing for the park scholar brochure. i have yet to shower. i have yet to actually wake up. and i have a lot to do--work out, get a haircut, get dinner, and hopefully, read some, write some, and finish "all about my mother."

i've only got a couple weeks left here, so i hope that i'll be able to continue soaking in the city for everything it's worth. adam's supposed to be in the city next week, and the week after, right before i head back home, clare and michelle will be in. being back home and being back at school are both rapidly approaching, and more than anything, i can't wait. i can't wait to see everybody.
