AU Background:
Mokou was born thirteen centuries ago, during the reign of Emperor Karu. Her father, Fujiwara no Fuhito, was part of the Emperor's court, so she lived a comfortable life, but she was something of an unwanted child, so she was mostly confined to the estate during her childhood. Life, however, was relatively peaceful, until Kaguya Houraisan, an princess from the Lunarian civilization, came to Earth. Mokou's father fell in love with Kaguya. Despite his position, though, she not only rejected his advances, but belittled and insulted him in the process. Mokou, who was very close to her father, was furious, and swore to get some sort of vengeance against the Lunarian.

Pursuing her vengeance, Mokou ran away from home, and tracked down a group of soldier climbing Death Monutain. They were carrying some artifact that Kaguya had left on Earth for her own reasons - destroying it would be an acceptable revenge. However, she was still young, and wouldn't have been able to make the brutal climb on her own... but the soldiers caught on to the fact that the girl was following them, and invited her into the group. They climbed the rest of the way to the peak together. The artifact was, of course, the Hourai Elixir, and the night after the soldiers found out its properties, they all killed one another out of greed. The only survivors were herself and Iwakasa, the leader of the group. In a moment of temptation, Mokou committed her first and greatest sin - she pushed Iwakasa to his death when he wasn't looking, and stole the elixir for herself.

Hundreds of years later, Mokou was a homeless, unaging wanderer. Traveling from place to place, slowly growing more despondent as her life continued, Mokou fell into a whirlpool of hopelessness, despair, boredom and madness. It wasn't until three hundred years later that she began to shake out of her complacency, when she learned of the appearance of the Rift. The Rift served as a sharp reminder that the world would continue to revolve and grow for as long as there was a world, and she began to accept her position as a wandering observer of a hundred ages of mankind.

The present finds her at a high point of activity - every few decades she rolls back and forth between a life of solitude in the wilderness and drifting among the populace. And even now, not a day passes by that she doesn't think of Kaguya, the villainous Lunarian who is the reason for her cursed existence...

Personality:
Mokou was born a normal human, but then became immortal. This had some pretty major impact on her personality. The human psyche generally isn't equipped to handle that long of a life. At first, she almost mentally shut down, no longer afraid of death and no longer capable of associating with mortal humans. During this period, Mokou became incredibly introverted and apathetic, not seeing much of a point in doing anything. She spent three hundred years spiraling deeper and deeper into depression, then another three hundred years as a being of berserk madness, killing everything that crossed her path.

What started her personality changing was Kaguya. Mokou's relationship with Kaguya is extremely complex. Kaguya spited an insulted her family back when she was mortal, so at least on the surface, Mokou despises Kaguya. The insult was a relatively minor one, initially; her original plan was just to perform some minor act of revenge to spite her before she left for the moon. What happened instead was that she spent hundreds of years with nothing to do but let that slight insult fester, until it has grown into an all-encompassing obsessive loathing. However, that same hatred is also to thank for her continued sanity. As Mokou herself put it, "nothing brings a sense of motivation the way a lust for revenge does." After their reunion, Mokou and Kaguya started to try and kill each other repatedly. This started as fueled by hate or anger, but it quickly became almost as much an expression of friendship as it was of hatred. After centuries of isolation, Kaguya was the only person Mokou could relate to, and the closest to someone she could call a friend.

After meeting Kaguya and getting assimilated into society, Mokou is still fairly quiet and introverted, but much less than she used to be. With people she doesn't know very well, she is very tight-lipped about her past, simply saying that she's a health nut who owns a yakitori stand. She opens up to people more as she gets to know them. In her spare time, she lives in the forest, saving lost humans from preying Youkai and sending them on their way, not talking much even to the people she's saving. In combat her personality fires up pretty dramatically, however - she can be a bit melodramatic even when Kaguya isn't involved. When Kaguya IS involved, expect a lot of screaming and tunnel vision. The transition between normal Mokou and revenge-crazy Mokou is incredibly jarring.

Combat Style:
Mokou has had over a thousand years to refine her combat abilities, but little to no formal training. She fights using a combination unarmed martial arts and fire magic - she's not very physically strong, but she's quick and has killer reflexes and combat instincts. Her magic is very powerful, and she's refined it to suit her own style. When she's fighting at full power, a flame aura surrounds her in the shape of a phoenix - with the wings of flame, she is indeed capable of limited flight.

Most notable, though, is the effects of the Hourai Elixir. No matter what is done to her, Mokou can't die. Given time, her body will always restore itself to the same state. The only limitations of her ability to keep fighting are pain tolerance and exhaustion. And even if she loses, and is thrown into a volcano, she still wouldn't truly die.

Kingdom or Faction: none

Primary Role: none

Soldier or Siege Company: none

Tarot Cards:
Past: The Tower
Present: The Hermit
Future: The Moon

Title: none

Artifacts:
Hourai Elixir
Properties: When consumed, it grants the drinker eternal life. For the most part, this should be something sought after by people but not found. There probably aren't any remaining batches of the Elixir this side of the moon.

Setting Considerations:
1300 years ago, the residing Emperor was Emperor Karu, an ascended warlord from Tsuwano. I may occasionally make up other tidbits from the past millenium.

Notes: Immortality is a hell of a power, but Mokou will still be limited by being able to be worn down by repeated deaths until she can't fight.
