ACK, finally a happy what-if!

Of course, there'd be no need for the sequels as they stand. But I could live with a new plot and amended characterizations, if I really had to. *sigh* ;-)

I suspected Jones was more like Will when he was a younger man, BTW ...

Yeah, the sequels would be different, if the events happened at all... but interesting. (I've had some thoughts on that, but I don't know if they'll ever materialize into a story.)

I've thought for a while now that Jones probably saw a lot of himself in Will. And Jones probably was like Will, before betrayal and heartbreak made him choose to be the monster we see on screen.

I think the events probably would still have happened but Jones wouldn't be the cruel, malicious guy demanding 100 souls from Jack.

Jack probably would have still bargained with him, got the Pearl back, tried to avoid his fate, and inadvertantly hand over Jones heart to Beckett. *THEN* we might see cruel, malicious Jones because he'll blame Jack for everything gone wrong. :D Now thats a What if story for you :-p

Oh and Im certain Calypso would have been bound anyway. Fate and Destiny is funny that way.

Nice! You're right, the prompt begs for happy endings and this one was perfect. Nice to imagine how many things could have been different if Jones was a satisfied man.
