Ah, a moment to breath and catch up. Kind of. I have an overdue library book on organization that I really need to make my (few) notes on and then get back to the library. That's next on my to-do list.
Last week Thursday we had a very nice dinner with some friends from the ward, Hartner's being part of the group. After we ate Ashley and I headed off to get some dessert and while out we stopped at her new house so I could see. That was a treat. I'd seen the outside, but not the inside yet. She's right, it needs a lot of work, but it will be awesome when it's done! I just wish they could keep their records in the ward. Ah well.
The next morning Karissa woke up and had what looked like a black eye. She didn't want to tell me what happened, but after some coaxing I finally got out of her that Nathan had hit her with the swing when they were all trying to get it up and over the bar during dinner the night before. Of course, he didn't mean to and my thought was, "Well, at least it didn't break your nose!" :^) Later on in the day though it became quite swollen and it only got worse the next day. It looked more like a bee sting but she would have screamed if that had been the case. Though, I would have thought she'd have cried being hit with the swing too. Anyway, to make a long story short...we decided it was a bug bite. It looks much better now, though more like a black eye again. Who knows? Maybe she DID get hit with the swing AND got a bug bite. :^) Poor girl.
Friday night Brandon headed off to Bear Lake to camp and then do the Bike the Bear thing so they could do their 50 miler. I planned on a relaxing evening but it didn't turn out to be such. I liked it better though. :^)
First of all, Karissa and I went over to the old hospital to visit a sweet Deaf sister that had had back surgery. She wasn't healing well so there were trying something before taking her back into surgery to sew her up. Anyway, she didn't know we were coming so it was a surprise, but a welcome one. Karissa, true to form, became very shy and suddenly Deaf herself. :^) We had a nice visit even though I probably only understood about 60% of our conversation. My receptive skills have gone downhill.
Then we'd done our second round of friendship bread that morning and I needed to find 4 people to take starters to. I'd already been told no by 2 people, which was totally fine. Anyway, we stopped at Brandon and Stephanie's to see if they wanted one, which they did, and we visited until it was time to go visiting teaching. Then it was off to Millie's to pick her up and drop Karissa off. Our sister wasn't there so we went back and, of course, Karissa didn't want to leave that soon. Being the sweet person she is, Millie offered to let me try some dinner she'd made before we left. Fried fish and some other kind of Ghana food made from corn. I couldn't remember the name to save my life. It was interesting. :^) I'm not sure I would have done well on a mission.
Then we still had to find homes for 2 starters (Patrice having said she'd take one) so off we went. We stopped at Water's and they took one. It was good to visit with them too. Karissa was all shy again but as we left said she really wanted Chardon and Samara over to play. :^)
Then we went over to Patrice's to drop two off with her, hoping Allison would take one. My "just a COUPLE minutes" that I said to Karissa turned into 2 hours and we didn't get home until about 11:15pm. It'd been forever since I'd had a chance to sit and talk with my "sister" and I think we both needed it. I know I sure did, anyway.
Saturday Brandon was gone all day so Karissa and I took off (after sleeping in, of course) to Park City. The money that Mark has given him was going to finally buy some shoes for Karissa. She does SO much better with Stride Right shoes so we waited until we could also afford the gas up there and back. Luckily they were having quite the back-to-school sale and I got her 3 pairs of shoes and 6 pairs of socks for $56. Tennis shoes that light-up (glow-up, as she says), some nicer shoes for church and (I know...I caved) clog sandals for at least the rest of the summer and fall. I'm hoping spring and the beginning of summer too. They were only $10 though and she's been begging me for sandals all year. Anyway, not bad. And her shoes weren't nearly as bad as I was afraid of. Her tennis shoes were an 8 1/2 and church shoes were an 8. She measured between an 8 1/2 and 9 so we got the tennis shoes in a 10 (since they lady said do 9 1/2 or 10) and her dressier shoes in 9 1/2. I was thinking she'd be around 3 sizes behind so 1 1/2 wasn't bad! :^)
That night after Brandon got home we went with Mom and Dad to a wedding reception up by the golf course. HOLY COW! What a yard!!! I don't know what the relation to the bride or the groom was, but wow. I almost thought about asking so I could maybe see about renting the place out for photo shoots. :^) A full size sport court, a REAL play house with two stories and totally weather proof (well, probably no heat or AC, but you never know.) A 3 level waterfall feature, a swimming pool. Wow. :^) Anyway, the reception was nice. hehe
Yesterday was really nice too. We did a Singing Time Olympics and the kids did awesome! I was very proud of them. After church I went with Millie over to the sister we'd missed Friday and caught her before work. That was nice. Except that was also the time I found out Millie is moving. :^( And to ELKO, of all places. I tried to tell her she didn't really want to live in Elko, but what do they do when George got a job there? Now we don't even get to see this beautiful baby girl she'll be having in a few more months! Well, it gives us someone to go to church with if we go out to visit Aunt Madge and Uncle Mark and Aunt Carol. I would like to do that.
We took dinner up to Mom, Dad and Kyle after a much-needed nap. It was yummy, as was the dessert Mom made. :^) It was a nice visit with all. Then we took off for Singing Lessons and had an enjoyable time there with a small crowd. We should have left much earlier than we did but it's my absolute favorite part when everyone else is gone and we sit around talking. Especially talking gospel things. :^) I figured it was one of those Good/Better/Best kinds of things. We traded in the Good (getting home earlier) for a Better, if not Best (being uplifted by such awesome people as Art and Rose.) :^)
Well, that is quite the long update for one post. Thanks to anyone that stuck it out to the end. ;^) TTFN!
