Christians. If you are one, dont read.

I just re-realized that Christianity is definitely the biggest scam in town. I just got bored and was looking through about of christian "survival", "retreat", camps. Almost all of them are upwards of 250 dollars, for a day. One of the websites said "We're excited to see what God is going to do this summer"; it actually made me laugh out loud ( Read more... )

"I try to ignore Christianity, I try to act like it isn't around anymore. Try to believe that no one is effected by it and that the newer generations will not fall into the same bullshit."

I feel like this is the same rational that Christian extremists uphold and practice when it comes to faiths that aren't theirs, and is therefore the kind of thinking that makes people such as yourself hate them.
So, in my opinion, having that thought process makes you similarly as close-minded about others as they are.

"The only way to be a "Good Christian" in terms of Christians is to be abhorred with almost 60% of the bible. You have to be anti-war, anti-death, anti-homophobia, anti-sexist, and willing to listen to your children instead of stoning them to death. Christians, you cant fucking eat 70% meat. what the fuck is wrong with you. What the fuck is wrong with you"

As someone who considers myself a Christian, I am anti-war, i am pro-death in some instances (for example, abortion), I am extremely anti-homophobia as well as anti-sexist, etc, etc. And I don't eat 100% of meat. So, what is wrong with me then?

I understand what you are saying, as well as the need to vent about ridiculous fucking people, and much of it is true about irrational, extremist Christians.
But, as someone who is so opposed to generalizations and the type of close-mindedness that said Christians exhibit, I think it's slightly hypocritical to generalize all Christians in the same way.

I completely 100% disagree. I am not basing my ideas and thoughts out of a book, thin air, or a church. Christian extremists are basing all of their ideas from the bible and God himself. I use intellect, thousands of books (from hundreds of countries), Science, historical knowledge, archeology, and even sometimes my eyes. My ideas about Christianity (religion in general) are much more complex and articulated than a fundamental christian extremist; who literally has to ignore everything around him and focus on a simplex line of thought.

I am definitely not talking about all Christians, but I am talking about around 85-90% of them. I am willing to even throw those numbers at all other world religions (I just have more contempt for Christianity, because I see it in practice everywhere). I am willing to general Christians as I do, because I have hundreds of encounters with them daily. Throughout my life I have met more Christians then any other section of humanity.

I see them ignore their book of tales and commit more atrocities in my life time than can even understand. Mainly in the name of their of their God. I also have contempt for religion based on the fact that the rebirth of religion has is roots deep in capitalist society. Religion is a tool of a bourgeois society; and I find it impossible to separate that from other things I loathe.

I will admit I have met around 10 Christians that weren't idiots, but that does not mean that the other 400,000+ that I have come into contact with in my life are alright. I am ok with the idea of working together with Christians like Jason stated above "I do think we should try to find ways to connect with those people who are motivated by faith to do good things." I am not close minded to the point where I will not listen to arguments for religion, I am just tired of seeing youth trapped up in what has become a machine. I personally dont think religion ever needs to come up in conversation and that it is a private matter.
