okay. i finally found some FREE time to update my journal! hooray. : )
the month of august has served me so well that the thought of keeping myself occupied with work at college scares me a little. i did experience two heartbreaking moments when my sister grace and one of my best friends ian left for college, but two pints of ben & jerrys ice cream helped me to fully recuperate from un-esther-like gloominess. : ) because i was perfectly aware of both of their departure dates, i spent much quality time with them and was fond of their company almost everyday of the week. ian, christelle, and ilyssa raided my house several times just so that we could have g-time and party all night long before going our separate ways. especially ian, stelle, and i were able to make several visits to applebees and treat ourselves with their scrumptious food. : ) two more hiking trips were made to mt. rainier, which authenticated my desire to join an outdoor club at northwestern. since my parents were gone for three entire weeks, my sis and i were expected to cook and clean but our innate untidiness somehow emerged so we just watched our house get filled with rubbish. hehe : ) anyway. at first, our reason for celebration was dad's promotion (he is now the dean of his college! how sweet!) but, as weeks went by, we began to invite people over just for the entertainment aspect. other than taking pleasure in chatting with sis, jenny, greg, and bessie for six hours straight, i enjoyed having lunch with: clarkie/ian/heej/beth at east and west cafe; foley at starbucks; grace at applebees; andrew and his roomate at ram; carrie at bahamas breeze; mike/rach/jeff/kaitlyn/lipe at gepettos and more. yes, i did manage to have lunch with different people everyday of these past two weeks, although my memory fails on me whenever i try to recall details of the pleasant outings with my dear friends. oh well.
what else? hmm. : ) oh yeah. since i AM leaving for college afterall, josh and mark decided to take me out to alki beach on wednesday and then treated me with a gourmet dinner at salty's afterward. their creme brulee was better tasting than ever before! yum. phil and tommy made their unexpected visit as always and took me out to bubble tea where we played jenga and just talked for hours. they teased me a little about me not calling but ultimately "understood" my standpoint. hehe. on top of that, jamies birthday was earlier that week so jamie, jenny, grace, hye, seung, david, and i had dinner at a korean restaurant and then held an after-party at hye's where joe and andrew joined us. for the first time, i lost control of the situation for a little bit but i was back on track in no time and we thoroughly enjoyed the night.
without a doubt, the most memorable event of this past weekend was the BEN FOLDS concert. the first band up was BEN LEE and now im in love with him, enough said. : ) too bad i didnt get to talk to him after the show but that was remedied by the AWESOME performance of ben folds. man. utterly overwhelming, captivating, and awe-inspiring. then appeared a guy named rufus wainwright who wrecked the state of bliss for everyone and made us leave the concert early. sigh* his music wasnt that disturbing but jo and aaron found it despicable so we said goodbye to the winery and had a late night snack at applebees with jon and shane before coming home. although i was dead tired by then, the boys put up an "interesting" conversation that kept me laughing. : ) it was cool to finally meet the inspiring artist for submotive, shane, since i had heard a lot about him. afteward, i came home only to have my sleep disturbed my andrew and his drunk dialing. sigh*
OH one more. i attended the northwestern luncheon in bellevue last week where i finally got to meet other nu students from washington state. at first, people found the situation quite awkward since everybody was just standing around in a huge circle and staring at other people's name tags, but then i decided to become the goofy one and made a slight fool of myself to break the ice. sigh* haha everyone seemed cool and friendly, and i met SO MANY new people with whom i shared intriguing conversations. my first encounter with my future dorm-mates got me pumped up and extremely thrilled for school. : ) as much as i will miss the beautiful weather of washington state, i know ill take full advantage of all the oppotunities available at northwestern and i cant wait til i meet new people and adapt to a completely new environment. how adventuresome!
i thought motive at the car show would be my last visit to one of their performances, but luckily enough, they'll be playing at bumpershoot this coming friday AND carrie's coming home for the labor day weekend so hopefully we'll see them play at EMP. : ) then awaits my camping trip to westport with phil, tommy, and other lax boys on saturday. yay!
