-Twelfth thing

“We don’t really know what happened to him yet. Did he have history of heart failure?” asked a very tired male in white attire.

A moment of silence. A couple in their late 50 or early 60 exchanged stares then the husband said, “He sometimes has ischemia symptoms, and he once got treatment when he was just a little baby…”

“Do you have history of ischemic heart disease in the family? Can I see his health record?” the doctor asked as he took a blue files from the parents and started to read it.

“Is he gonna be okay?”

“He’ll be okay. For now,” the doctor said without even looking up from the files, not to reassure the worried parents but because he used to say it. After a few more moments the doctor slipped the files he was reading to the pile he was carrying and looked up then said, “We need to talk about this in my office, but I have to read thoroughly your sons health record first so, I expected your presence later this afternoon,” and he walked away from them.

Hyukjae sat on the long bench in front of emergency room alone, looking down all the time while listening carefully to the conversations. He hadn’t seen Donghae yet since he arrived after Donghae’s parents so he just stood in the side as an outsider.

He felt someone joined him in the bench and he looked up to find Donghae’s father looking at him. With a smile. And Hyukjae have to smile back right?

“Are you Donghae’s friend?” asked the elder since no patients other than Donghae in the emergency room and if Hyukjae was waiting here he must be waiting for Donghae.

Hyukjae stared at the male for a moment, thinking if he should answer ‘Yes, I’m his friends’ or ‘No, I’m his boyfriend’ But Donghae’s father beat him.

“Aren’t you the one who always escort Donghae home?”

Hyukjae nodded. Hyukjae could feel a pity from Donghae’s father, maybe his red nose and swollen eyes were the caused of it, so Hyukjae looked to the side to avoid the other stare.

“He’ll be okay,” The elder said as he patted Hyukjae on the back, somehow more reassured than when it said by the doctor earlier. But it couldn’t lift the weight he’s feeling right now.

“It’s all my fault,” Hyukjae found himself said.

A hand on his back stopped for a mere second before the owner said, “It’s nobody’s fault, Hyukjae.”

Hyukjae looked up to the man and sniffed, he didn’t sure if he heard the man called him by his name.

“It’s not your fault, Hyukjae.”

-Thirteenth thing

He saw it. Donghae saw it. Hyukjae knew Donghae saw him with Jessica again because there was no other reason why Donghae suddenly ran home.

So it’s all his fault. Donghae was lying on the hospital bed and depending all his life on equipments was all Hyukjae’s fault.

He couldn’t weep off the feeling of guilty by crying it off or sleeping it off. By the time morning came, he didn’t feel like going to school, because he looked like a mess.

He took extra time to wash clean his face and runny nose. But his eyes were still swollen his mum had to ask every 5 minutes if he was okay.

“I’m catching cold,” Hyukjae lied to his mum, might be she would let him stay home.

“You cried,” his mum said death serious.

“I’m… yeah… it’s because…” Hyukjae couldn’t continue and just sniffed.

“What happened honey? You clearly not okay…” his mum reached out and hugged Hyukjae’s head then patting it lovingly.

The sweet gesture did nothing good to his emotion as Hyukjae felt himself in the verge of crying again.

“Mum, you make me… feel worse,”

His mum chuckled and said he could stay home if he wanted after Hyukjae finished crying, practically wet her apron.

Of course a few hours later Sungmin called and asked him why he didn’t get to school.

“I’m sick.”

“Yeah, right!” the sarcasm flew over the phone. “Are you at Lee Donghae’s home right now?”

Hyukjae’s mood darken but he responded anyway, “No, why?”

“Because he didn’t go to school too… yaknow? I was just thinking if you two were alone last night…” Sungmin said nonchalantly, but turned to worry when he heard sobs instead, “Hyukjae, are you okay?”

“I hurt him,” Hyukjae said softly.

A moment of silence, because Sungmin was waiting for Hyukjae to continue, so when Hyukjae didn’t, he asked, “So?”

Hyukjae didn’t answer, but he stopped sobbing. As if it just occurred to him.

“It’s not the first time you hurt people,” Sungmin said. True.

“And you never care at all,” Sungmin continued. True.

“So why you care now?” Why Hyukjae care now?

“You couldn’t possibly fall for him would you?” Sungmin joked, but he regretted it when Hyukjae still didn’t answer, “Oh my God, you do!”

Does he?

Ime's Note 1: Damn. What was that? At first Hae's dad didnt even recognize Hyuk, but he knew Hyuk name! And oh dear... Hyuk started to blaming him self... poor baby... ;__; Did he really fall for Hae? 8O
