To seem important or not to seem important

I seem to have worked myself in the workplace where I can at least appear to be professionally significant enough to have vendors kiss my butt.

I tend to be bad at this cause I tend to treat them well, and not let them really do to much, but it was kind of neat to be introduced to other people by the vendor as a big deal.  This is Bob he is with (big company name).  Somehow they are missing that I have no power to buy things, but I did get a multi tool, and won a Starbucks gift certificate.

So that was nice, and now on Sunday I fly out to Detroit for something.  I still haven't really had it cleared up what for, I have an idea but I have lots of questions I need to talk to my boss for.  I am going to receive a tour of their other location, not sure why but tours are always nice, and a lunch.  Mmmm Lunch.

Of course with the seeming of importance comes the other stuff, like yesterday afternoon had people calling me all day to coordinate this and that and this other thing, even though really I couldn't do most of it, and had to call people they could have to take care of it, somehow they think I'm the guy to do it, and I was too busy to actually explain to them what to do, even though they knew, and get them to do it.  Bah.

Also Sunday before I fly out I will be spending all day at another location to make sure that things go ok because, ok I'm not sure exactly why but so just because.
