To live

Jun 20, 2005 23:29

I had to post this topic because one of my (Christian) friends of mine made an interesting comment that really struck a chord in me. He later apologized, but I would like to address the topic.

Living is serving the Lord, glorifying his name. As the good Rachel Loeb once put it, (paraphrasing of course) "We have an eternity to worship Christ, but only a lifetime to witness." And you witness by serving the Lord, reaching out, and glorifying his name. This week I am extremely focused upon the garage sale that is happening at my house this weekend, (Proceeds benefiting scholarship), and my friend made the comment to me that when I "decide to live" I should call them. I was really befuddled by this statement. Live? Like, watch a movie? That's living? As supposed to serving the Lord and glorifying His name? (sigh) it just upset me, and every alarm in my heart was going off when I heard it, yet I was too dumbfounded to reply.... so I called back later. Which I am glad I did. But still.

Anyways... I am truly sorry for ranting. I just wanted to make the point to all that living for the Lord IS living, and chasing after desires that prove to be fulfilling only in the briefest of moments, well... it's not living. It's quite fruitless actually.

Back to other things. I would TRULY appreciate all of your prayers for the smoothness and success of the garage sale and continued success throughout the summer of the scholarship fund. I understand what a huge part of the success of this garage sales lays upon the prayer of those who support me, and value your prayers much more than any donation of objects or money. I love you all, and also ask to keep me in your prayers, (for the busy week ahead anyway!!)
