i love the lights at night
how they glimmer and sparkle
illuminating the dark sky
the different colors burning bright
and the hazy fog muting the shades
from glorious pink to a modest mauve
a sweet mist shimmers through the air
reflecting each and every ray of light
it's times like these i want to stay forever
under a large canopy
of deciduous trees
follow emerson to the ends of the earth
lifting our heads up to infinite space
how can one feel anything but awe
amidst the beauty of creation?
it's nights like these i want to leave
civilization and man's "conveniences"
see the moonlight skip drops of light
across a lake and reflections linger on
stars hanging in the tall forest giants
for it seems that so much heartache
so much discontent is breathed into existence
through synthetics, it's too hard to dechiper the truth
plastics and silicone, plasma and styrofoam
i'd rather live beneath the large canopy
where at least i know what is truly real
i'll still sneak into town occasionaly
to admire the lights piercing the night
throwing beams of color on a canvas of darkness
they mimic the sun, the moon, and the stars
manmade as they may be, they'll always lead me home.
