Midgard, January 2010. The New Year has just begun, and for many of the residents of this bustling city, life is slowly calming down after the holiday rush. School is once again in session, and by promising various New Year’s resolutions, humanity is promising to better itself…But many of these promises will be broken without notice. So is the world of humans.

It was the opening of the Volus Industries, a science center constructed for acts of genetic research and engineering, which prompted the city of Midgard to become the metropolis it is today. In the daylight, people carry on with their lives, never noticing what may be lurking just in the shadows. It is in the night that they are hunted, unknowing, by a race far more superior than humanity could ever hope to be.

Vampires. Descendants from the very first vampires of all time: The Fabulae.

It is the world of darkness that controls the city once the sun sets. However, the vampires are more than just creatures in the night. They have their claws dug deeply into society, and are powerful in means of politics, and the justice system. In this way, the balance of power between humans and vampires is invisible, but equal. It is a mutual agreement among those who are aware of the presence of such a being: Vampires never take more than their fill, and in return, humans are spared the cruel fate of conquest.

This delicate balance has survived for centuries, and peace has kept between the light and dark for everyone of those days. But now, there is a new force threatening to tip the scales, and this change would not be in favor of humans -or- vampires.

Veiled behind the thick walls of Volus Industries, Dr. Johann Priest brought life to a new breed. Genetically altered to be so different in their abilities that they can never be referred to as human, The Ænir were his greatest accomplishments. They were beautiful beings that seemed to have no flaw in their design, save one: Their thirst for human blood.

Soon after they were created, the Aenir turned on their own creator and destroyed him, along with any man who stood at his side to oppose them. From that moment on, they controlled the laboratory, angry at mankind for allowing this “curse” to happen to them.

To the Ænir, this month has marked the third year of their secret possession of Volus Industries. Seemingly invincible, and with their thirst for blood and knowledge without limit, they are planning to overrun the city of Midgard with their descendants, their children: The vanir. Those who were infected with their abnormalities by their bite.

This is the threat to the truce between vampires and humanity.

It is uncertain when the balance of power within the city’s parameters will shift, but it is surely to be soon. With so much control hanging just on the edge of reason, war is inevitable. Midgard will soon become a nocturnal battleground…

Vampire or Vanir, only one can be in control.
