The weather's gonna go rough that fast?

....I didn't realize summer finished up so quick.

I could help out a bit. I can carry things, when I'm not guarding stuff.

Oh, no! It doesn't go that fast! But the sooner we can get it done, the better, right? We probably should have done it even sooner than that, but I wasn't sure who to ask.

Yeah, I guess it's been slow going on building projects and things, between floods and rain and...other stuff.

But, I think if we can figure out the logistics of it, if we get an engineer or go to the library and see what's hidden there, we might be able to get some energy. Limited, of course; it might only be able to be used in the hospital or surrounding areas to the windmill and that, but it would be something, right?

A waterwheel on this river might be enough to run a mill, but not to generate the kind of electricity that would power a small settlement.

You'd need the force of falls. Even a micro hydro project would require careful planning, and even by a simple survey of the river....it's very doubtful.

Hm. Do you have any suggestions? As much as I hate to admit it, this isn't my forte.

I was educated in a world with very advanced irrigation systems that ran primarily on hydroelectricity. While I am no technical engineer in that field, in quick-glance comparison this world's resources are insufficient for the sort of generator you have in mind.

But perhaps among the worlds represented, there are alternative forms of energy. What is commonly used? How many of the population are even from worlds where electricity is familiar? I would begin surveying the technologies available...and unless we have skilled technicians...well. Such a task is a long term project.

Our resource wasn't isn't something that can be used here, I'm afraid. I don't think we will be able to bring much to the table in help on that front. But I'll see if I can get any information that might be needed, if that would help.

Are there even any electric devices in the city?

There's lights, if nothing else. Refrigerators for the summer, maybe a washer and dryer that we could get working, any medical equipment.

Looks like you are going to need an engineer, then. But I can see how that would benefit the town in general.

I don't even know if we have an engineer here; I think it's sort of wishful thinking at this point.

I know Demyx can control water...but that'd probably overwork him and that's not really fair.

Right, and I don't think any one person should have to have the city depending on them. Especially if the gods suddenly send him home; then we're back to square one.

That's a gret idea!

What about solar energy? Or Magic users? Maybe there's a way to charm a self running engine or generator.

But if the magic users run down, or if it starts depleting their reserves so we can't use them to defend...?

It's...harder for me to use my magic now. It takes a lot out of me. It's...painful.

I was thinking something more along the lines of charming machinery to work in it's own.

Materia? Why do you think?

...

Are you alright?

Oh! Wait--who can do that?

There isn't a Lifestream here, so I have been wondering where the power comes from to cast it. I still don't know, but I think it's pulling it from ourselves.

I'm okay. I don't use magic as often as other people.
