a/n: uhm. still short, but not as short as the first chapter? ^-------^;;;;;
Hyukjae watches as Donghae tries to pick up another girl at the grocery store. The girl is pretty cute, in his opinion, with long, wavy hair and a shy smile to accompany her big, round eyes. He sighs when Donghae leans in flirtatiously, a little suggestively, and sees the girl blush. The show ends when Donghae saunters back to him and waves a slip of paper in his hand with nine digits inscribed neatly on one side.
“You really need to stop doing that,” Hyukjae mutters when Donghae grins and throws an arm around his shoulder.
“What? Hugging you?” Donghae answers with a chuckle. “I thought you loved physical contact with me?” Hyukjae rolls his eyes and continues pushing the cart through the aisle.
“No, I meant you asking out every living thing with legs and a name,” Hyukjae retorts, grumbling. Donghae hums thoughtfully, and Hyukjae tries not to notice how the younger man’s arm had slipped down to wrap around his waist.
“I haven’t asked Choco out yet,” Donghae replies, his voice choking at the end as he tries to hold back his laughter.
“My dog?!” Hyukjae gapes at Donghae in bewilderment. Donghae laughs loudly.
“Legs and a name.” Hyukjae looks away when Donghae winks, and tries very hard again not to notice how Donghae’s fingers were idly stroking his hipbone where his shirt had ridden up.
“But, come to think of it, your theory is wrong. You have legs and a name. I haven’t asked you out yet,” Donghae jokes with a soft nudge. Hyukjae’s grip on the cart tightens and doesn’t laugh.
--
“Yah! Would you two stop cuddling and push that cart a little faster?” Kyuhyun growls as quietly as possible. He pulls his cap lower over his face and consciously tightens his jacket around himself, cautiously looking down the aisle if anyone had happened to notice him.
“Hey, it’s your fault for showing up so unexpectedly,” Donghae tells him, still not letting go of Hyukjae’s waist. He grins when Kyuhyun scowls at him.
“Well, I just assumed that all normal people would have at least some kind of food in their apartment,” Kyuhyun bites back sarcastically. “But then again, you two aren’t normal.”
Hyukjae makes a face at him. “Hey! That’s… not very nice.” Donghae turns to look at Hyukjae and raises an eyebrow.
“You’re so amazing at comebacks. Like really,” Donghae teases, but then peers over at Kyuhyun again with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Yah, Kyuhyunna.” His grin transforms into a wicked smirk and he almost laughs at Kyuhyun’s expression. “How many fangirls do you think are in here right now?”
Kyuhyun’s eyes widen. “Oh my god, Hyung-”
--
“Remind me to kill him when he gets back,” Kyuhyun pants, slumped against the wall next to Hyukjae. Hyukjae lets out a throaty chuckle as they sink lower onto the floor of Kyuhyun’s officetel.
“You mean, assuming he gets back alive after being your scapegoat?” Hyukjae says breathily. “Really, Donghae needs to think more. He should have known his plan would backfire on him. I wonder if he’s buried deep under murderous fangirls right now.” Kyuhyun laughs at him.
“Most likely. And he may be the hyung, but I can still force him to do stuff, like, yeah, be my scapegoat,” Kyuhyun replies with a smirk.
“Force who to do what stuff?” a voice calls out from the kitchen. Kyuhyun tenses slightly at the sound of his manager’s voice.
“Teukie-hyung, you’re here?” Kyuhyun gets up from the floor, helping Hyukjae stand as well, and makes his way to the kitchen.
“I live here?” Eeteuk fires back sardonically. “And what the hell did you guys bring?” He’s looking at the grocery bags that had been dropped clumsily on the floor.
“Holyfuck I’m never doing that shit again.” Donghae bursts into the room, collapsing against the nearest wall as soon as the door shuts behind him. He earns himself a slipper to his head.
“Language!” Hyukjae scolds, clamping onto Donghae’s arm, and drags him over to the couch. “And that’s what you get for putting Kyuhyun’s life in danger.”
“You, what?!” Eeteuk runs into the living from, eyes wide, looking back and forth between Donghae and Kyuhyun, who plops down onto the sofa next to Donghae. Donghae leans against Kyuhyun’s shoulder heavily, earning a confused ‘I-thought-you-wanted-to-kill-each-other’ stare from Hyukjae.
“What?” Donghae inquires with a soft expression on his face. “Kyuhyun loves me. Right, Kyuface?” Kyuhyun rolls his eyes but lets Donghae cling onto him anyway.
“Don’t tell me you’re going to ask him out too,” Hyukjae mumbles dejectedly, shaking his head.
“Ew, no, never!” Donghae exclaims, sitting upright. “He’s like… a brother to me. Or like. A grandpa or something.” Kyuhyun hits him on the back of his head.
“AND WHY HASN’T ANYONE ANSWERED ANY OF MY QUESTIONS YET?!” Eeteuk exasperates from his spot by the kitchen.
Hyukjae chuckles at Kyuhyun’s manager as he pulls Donghae up to his feet again. Donghae makes a little whine of protest, not wanting to move away from his very comfortable position on Kyuhyun. Hyukjae pushes the grocery bags against his roommate’s chest and tells him to help him make dinner.
“Wait, Donghae cooking?” Eeteuk pipes up. “Uhm, hell fucking no?” He grabs the bags from an overly-excited Donghae and stalks into the kitchen. Kyuhyun promptly follows.
“You can’t cook either,” the youngest points out, and chaos erupts in the kitchen.
--
“Take-out?” Hyukjae suggests later, food scattered along the kitchen floor. The other three nod.
--
Eeteuk watches Kyuhyun, singing at the center of the living room, from his spot on the couch. Donghae and Hyukjae had left right after dinner, claiming that they had an early start at the dance academy the next morning, though Eeteuk was sure that it was just an excuse to get out of cleaning duty.
“Hyung,” Kyuhyun says in the middle of his song, a frown on his face. “I… I don’t know. Something doesn’t feel right.” He balls his fists next to his thigh.
“You need to feel the song, Kyuhyunna,” Eeteuk tells him, standing up from his seat. He walks toward Kyuhyun and places a hand against the taller man’s chest. “Feel it from here.” He feels Kyuhyun stiffen a bit, and his hand gives a slight twitch as he imagines Kyuhyun’s heartbeat under his palm. He looks up at the younger man, and they stare at each other for seemingly long moments, before Kyuhyun shifts his gaze and clears his throat.
“Uhm, I’ll-I’ll try that,” Kyuhyun stammers as Eeteuk’s hand pulls back from his chest quickly and awkwardly. Eeteuk nods and sits back on the couch, shifting uncomfortably. He listens silently as Kyuhyun starts to sing again.
--
“Hey-What?!” Hyukjae sputters when Donghae grabs the carton of strawberry flavored milk from his hands and takes a long sip. Donghae gives him a sideways glance and shrugs his shoulders, grinning around the straw.
They’re sprawled across the floor of their living room in their pajamas, or, rather, in loose tee-shirts and baggy sweatpants. Hyukjae peers over at Donghae precariously, who is still chugging down his drink in glee. He notices how, from the dimmed light of their apartment and the flickering glow from the television, Donghae’s face looks a lot more stunning and surreal and perfect. His mind wills him to look away before Donghae notices him staring, but Hyukjae can’t find himself to tear his gaze away. Maybe it’s the late night hour. Maybe it’s Donghae. Maybe it’s him.
Hyukjae panics when Donghae turns his head to fully look at him.
“What?” Donghae says in a slow, teasing drawl. “Are you going to try and get this back from me?” Donghae beams as he shakes the carton from in between his fingers. Hyukjae swallows hard and tries not to focus on Donghae’s smile, his eyes, his-
The carton of milk falls to the floor and spills all over their pajamas as Hyukjae leans over and kisses him.
