Summary: In which Buffy returns to DC.
Author’s Note: Part of my Cosmic Love series. Last week broke my heart and I had to fix it.

Buffy hasn’t set foot in DC since Seeley left the year and a half before.
It’s hard, being with a soldier at war. She’d talk to Parker on the phone, and occasionally Seeley when he would call her, but for the most part, she was elsewhere. She was needed elsewhere. She only really stayed in Washington in the first place because Seeley was there. Now that he wasn’t, there wasn’t really any reason for her to stay.
It was over the moment he walked into the airport. She knew it and he knew it. It wasn’t something they wanted, but it was what they knew was necessary. And while he would call her every now and then, the frequency slowed, and soon there was nothing at all. It hurt, but she knew that it would come eventually. He was moving on with his life. She should do the same.
(She didn’t, but then again she never did. Everyone moves forward, and she always stays the same.)
She is in DC now to recruit another Slayer that had been recently activated, but she’s not at work yet. She only got in a few hours ago, so for now she’s wandering. She likes to wander, especially in a familiar place. She’s rounding the corner near the Founding Fathers, and she might have just continued to pass on her way with a fond smile, if it isn’t for what she sees in front of it.
Temperance sees her, but Buffy doesn’t see her. She’s too busy focusing on the man in the scientist’s arms, the one she’s trying to support but it’s hard when he has more muscle mass than she does. He looks terrible, and it breaks her heart. She just stares for a moment until Temperance’s voice breaks through her thoughts.
“Buffy?”
She glances over at her, before moving to Seeley’s other side, shifting to take some of his weight. “I got him. Get the cab door.” Temperance nods as she lets Buffy take him, moving to open the door. Buffy eases him inside the cab before turning back to their friend. “What happened?”
“He says he … ” There’s a pause, and she knows that whatever it was, Temperance is having a hard time knowing how to relate to it. “ … I didn’t know what to tell him.”
“It’s okay,” Buffy sighs, before sliding back into the cab. “I’ll take care of him.”
