Lois rolled over and inhaled, taking in the smell of something that wasn’t normally in her apartment. It was food-and not just food either, good smelling food. Good smelling food that was accompanied by the soft sizzle that indicated it was being cooked.
There was someone cooking in her apartment, and-why was she asleep again?
She pushed up into a sitting position, using one hand to hold the bed sheet to her chest and letting her eyes fall on her boyfriend, standing at her stove, cooking her breakfast. “Okay. This is either some kind of fantastic mirage, or you are making your way into best boyfriend ever territory.”
He glanced back over his shoulder at her and smirked. “I figured that if I have to work tonight, the lease I could do is make you breakfast.”
She watched him for a moment as he made his way over with a plate of scrambled eggs and bacon, and she took it from him, before responding. “I’m going to blame this one on the disorientation of breakfast in bed. Is there something that’s special about tonight?”
He raised an eyebrow before taking a bite of his bacon. “Valentine’s Day?”
She blinked. “That’s today?”
“Yes. Has been for the past … ” He glanced down at his watch with a smirk. “Seven hours.”
She groaned, burying her face in her hand. “I can’t believe I forgot.”
“Really? You forgot Valentine’s Day.”
“It wasn’t intentional, alright? I’ve just been swamped with this story, and a late deadline-”
He chuckled softly, before leaning in to kiss her gently. “You can make it up to me, by being a little late to work.”
“How late?” she asked, smiling a little into the kiss.
He took her plate from her and placed it to the side, before leaning into her a little more. “Late enough.”
