an italian christmas

Okay, so I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I had two, actually. One was on Thanksgiving Day at my Aunt's house with my mom's side of the family. Unfortunately my dad was MIA because he had to fly so we did the whole thing all over again on Saturday night when my aunt (dad's sister) and grandma (also dad's side) flew in. It was really nice except I am not a big fan of turkey so I did not relish eating it twice.

The latest bit of drama in my house has been caused by our impending trip. About two months ago, I decided that in lieu of presents this year I wanted to go on an international family vacation. Despite the fact that we have pass privleges and can fly for free our family has not been on a vacation in over five years and even then I really wasn't included because I was moving into college. Anyway, I am about to start my career which would make it really had for us to do this again anytime soon. With that in mind, I thought it was a great idea. My destination of choice: Australia. My mother and I started scheming to make this happen knowing full well of the resistance we would face from my dad. Anything resembling this is in fact a logistical nightmare and my dad tends to steer clear.

Last night, WWIII ensued when my dad started being very pessimistic about the trip. And now, 24 hours later here is where we stand: My dad is confident that the chances of getting on a flight to Sydney are beyond marginal given our stand by status. He suggested Rome because it would give us more options to get in and out Europe. So as it is right now we are listed on a flight to Rome on Christmas Eve. Am I excited? I really wish I could say yes but given our track record with family vacations I don't think I will be excited til we actually land in Rome.

Anyway, with my birthday being a week away I have been contemplating what to do with my birthday money. Since my digital camera is slowly but surely biting the dust, I think I want to replace it. Therein lies the dilemma. I found a very nice Sony Point & Shoot for about $275, my friend Sera just got it and said it is amazing. However, I have for a very long time wanted a Digital SLR camera. I found the Canon Digital Rebel XT online for $400 but that is considerably more and also it is a lot bigger. I am not sure what I am going to do yet. Ahh the dilemma!

That's all for now. I am going to go back to my non-stop cycle of movie rentals. I just finished watching "Winter Passing" and have "The Sixth Sense" & "Far From Heaven" here at home and "Cosi", "Boogie Nights" and "Veronica Guerin" just came in the mail. Fun times!

christmas, rome, movies, thanksgiving
