I turned in my job application for Regal Cinemas at Bridgeport and I also got to speak briefly with the woman in charge of scheduling. Basically she gave me a rundown of what the hours would be like, which put the job into perspective.
Pros:
-I'll be working a heck of a lot more than I do now at a job I can actually rely on.
-I'll be getting paid a heck of a lot more as a result of the reliability and increased hours.
-As part of working there, I get unlimited free movies with a guest. Granted I probaby WILL have to limit the amount of movies I do go see for free (don't want them thinking I'm taking advantage of them), but still, free is a very good price especially when compared with what it costs these days to go to a theater.
Cons:
-The schedulist (is that a word?) told me what the hours might be like. On some nights I could be working as late as 1 or 2, possibly even 3 in the morning. This isn't just restricted to midnight showings either. She said that due to the crowds they're expecting for movies like Spiderman I will probably end up working really late. It is also likely that I will be working until midnight during the week, regardless of school. Luckily she said that midnight is the latest I would be expected to work on those nights because of school, but that's still pretty late.
-It'll be cutting into my social life even more. More working hours means that I'll need to shift the time I do homework around a bit which could interfere with the time I get to spend with friends. Sadly, that is the price of working to make money. Afterall, if I didn't work who would you have to take you all out for sushi?
I also made sure to tell her that I would be comfortable 4 days a week, but that I would be willing to come in more than that if they needed me to. I've got an interview tomorrow at 8:15. Not really nervous now, but that might change tomorrow once I get there.
Ultimately, it's work. It's more hours, more reliable, and therefore more money which I desperately need right now. Hopefully things will get better in the future. I'm still a high school student, though. Yes I'll be in college soon, but that still leaves me low dog on the totem pole. Right now I'm the slave. I work as much as they want me to and I get to put up with it. That's just the way things are going to be for awhile.
