Did you even see the movies? There is no question that Bigelow has the upper hand as far as technique and artistry is concerned! I don't think this was a "statement" Oscar. That was deserved recognition not bought by studios or swooning of the jury with special effects. Bigelow absolutely deserved it, no matter who presented the Oscar to her.

Yes, I did see both movies.
What I saw in Kathryn's 'The Hurt Locker' was nothing new or ground-breaking, but James Cameron's 'Avatar' was something I have never seen done before. Any way that you look at it, she got her Oscar because she is a woman and because many people don't like James Cameron and are upset about his Oscar for 'Titanic', it's that simple.
