The time in the semester has come where everything seems more important that doing my homework, and since i just realized that I haven't written in this in so very, very long, I feel it's only right to procrastinate a little more until I go play downtown with Twig.
Life in Flag is beautiful, I can't remember when my last post was, I actually haven't looked, but I think it was when I was still in Phoenix for the summer, and I had every right to miss Flag as much as I did (and hate Phx as much as I did) because my life is pretty much the shit here. Living with Twig has been the best roommate experience I've ever had, which was pretty much expected, but I'm so glad it's turning out like it is. We live in a "cozy" (that's what everyone calls our place when they first see it, because, well, it's small) house with two bedrooms, a parlour/dining/computer/living/music room, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Our bathroom's awesome cuz we live by the "If it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down" rule for water conservation, a kitty-litter box for our cat, Lily, and Twig's growing plants on othe windowsill by our shower. Our kitchen is great because it is constantly filled with dumpster food and trash bags of fresh-baked bread from one of our roommate's jobs at a local bakery. The parlour room kicks ass, we currently have four guitars hanging from the wall, four paintings (two by Twig, complete with her menstrual blood on one of them), a magnetic painting thing with magnetic poetry all over it, flyers from local shows, and a cardboard sign that says "KID FROM KANSAS NEEDS A HELPIN' HAND" from an awesome banjo player/traveler named St. Kristofer who stayed at our house for about a week, a while back. We have records and other random instruments, a computer, a little couch, and a pile of stuff that belong to Sebastian and Eric all over the floor.
Sebastian and Eric are two guys who have been staying with us for a couple weeks now, they rode their bikes all the way from Washington state, and they're gonna be on their way to South America in a few months, sans bicycles. But for now, they're with us and I love them so...especially Sebastian, he's freakin beautiful and has done so many things in his 22 years, including crossing the US several times over, backpacking around Europe alone for many months, and teaching little children in poor parts of Africa. They're both silly and fun and full of energy, and they like to sing and dance...and play soccer. I'll miss them when they leave.
My friend Shawna also just moved in to our house-turned-free hostel and is sharing a room with Twig and I, and I love having her as well. Our house was actually male-dominated before Shawna came, and she's vegan so we're all eating really healthy stuff :) And of course, we have our pseudo-roommate, Garrett (Twig's non-boyfriend) who's here all the time, and Nick, who's here most of the time. And Katie's been coming over more often, which makes everything pretty much complete. I love our house soooo so so much. Everyone calls it The Music House, because we're always jammin, singing, dancing, bangin on shit, and suchforth. It's wonderful.
My life outside The Music House has been pretty good too. School is trying, but I'm teaching more which is really nice. I teach a Kindergarten Suzuki violin class twice a week at an elementary school up here, and a mixed-age note-reading/small ensemble class once a week at NAU. I just found a teacher in Davis, CA to student-teach with in Spring of 2008, which I'm waaaay excited, so that'll be my next destination after Flag. I'm also moving up in the violin studio, skill-wise, so I have higher placements in Symphony and Chamber orchestra. My classes are kinda slacking, but I think most of them are bullshit, and I just wanna graduate, so I'm not aiming for real high grades anymore.
Since I've moved up, Briton broke up with me, which was real difficult for a while, esp. since I waited the whole summer for him, but thankfully I'm over it and I heard he's been kind of a generic "lets go find the nearest party where there's free booze and lotsa hot chicks I can hit-on in my drunken-asshole state" type of guy, so I'm not missin out. I went through a random hook-up phase where I didn't really care about who I was with and how many random guys were callin me, but I'm done with that too, thank God. I'm kind of focusing my attention on this nice, shy but not quiet, singer/songwriter guitar player named Damien who I met at the open mics we've been playing at up here. I don't know too much about it him, except that he's from Brooklyn, he's really really hot, really really talented, knows a lot about music, and I'm pretty sure he's interested in me. But we're having dinner on Sunday at our new friend Karna's house, and oh, we love Karna a lot. Also an amazing singer/songwriter guitar player from the open mics, and sooo easy to talk to and get along with. I love seeing her any chance I get.
So basically, playing lotsa music with The Family (our band that goes by different names, with me, Twig, Nick, Garrett, and Sebastian and Eric right now...and anyone else, like Karna, Damien, this girl Rachel...pretty much all of Flag), teaching little kiddies and goin to school, dumpster-diving, and thinking of more places to travel to (Twig and I and these two other guys drove to Boulder a few weeks ago, FUUUUUN TIIIIIIMES). Oh, also thinking about the commune we'll be moving to in two years in Washington, 10 miles south of Canada, that Sebastian owns.
How is everyone else doing? I bet you can't type as much as I just did!
