lonely's the last place I wanted to be.

Oh, 4chan. There is something wrong with anyone who regularly spends time hanging out on \b\, but the Facebook group that provides a distilled selection of the most amusing images has my boundless admiration. Here is something I found amusing:

That, in turn, led to

But wait, there's more! While perusing the contents of boxes in my basement for ephemera I might use in my art, I found a number of funny/poignant/beautiful objects. We'll start with the humor, shall we? Apparently, we had a set of tabloid fridge magnets, from which I created this delightful poem:

Then there were items such as this previously unseen photograph of me and my father... I look just like this sometimes. I'm glad I look like my father and not my mother. She used to be a very beautiful woman, but time and life have nearly sapped it all away, while my father has grown from a handsome, rakish young man into a handsome, dignified older man. Also, my dad makes funnier faces. (:

And not even a '96 sticker; it's from '92. There's another one, which we are putting on Nat's car.

My brother, meaning this is from 1990.

view from Ellis Island, 1998 on the back. I don't remember my dad going to NY in 1998, but I guess he must have. The Ellis Island visit was probably because that's where his grandparents and great-grandparents entered the country. We don't really know who they were, or what their names were. Their families probably all died in Eastern Europe during the Holocaust. This photo is pretty sad and makes me wish I'd gone to NYC, the way I wish I'd gone to NOLA.

Haha, I remember drawing on this paper. My dad used to bring it home from work. 2/11/95 means I was six...

Probably taken during my father's cross-country bicycle trip, when he was twenty.

From an anthology of works by Atlanta Public Schools students published during my kindergarten year. I'd nearly forgotten this.

-I need a bathing suit. More importantly, I need a body I can be happy with.
-I have a prom dress and shoes, but not a date.
-I'm practically finished with my things for AP Art, and every time I tell one of my classmates that, they tell me to go do obscene things with myself because they're not half done. That seems unfair; I've worked hard.
-We had our Youth Radio party today. My latest commentary (about emotional eating) can be heard here. If for some reason you are interested in hearing my older commentaries including one that was aired nationwide on Weekend All Things Considered,
9th grade: A commentary on gay marriage. My first ever radio commentary.
10th grade: This one is about the terror alert levels (and corresponding colors) and how silly they are.
11th grade: Cronyism in government, and more particularly in the Bush White House. Definitely my most scathing, sarcastic commentary.
12th grade- well, sort of: This aired on NPR the evening before the first day of my senior year. I wrote and recorded it during my last two weeks or so of summer vacation. It's about Abby Cadabby, the latest addition to Sesame Street, and questions her appearance has raised about gender roles and political correctness. If you only can stand to hear my voice once, definitely pick this one.
I wrote one additional commentary in 11th grade for a special on Hurricane Katrina; I also interviewed my parents and the Tulane student who lived with us for a month and a half, and who I now basically think of as the big sister I never had. I don't know that there's a link to it online, though.
Wow, that was a bit self-congratulating, eh? Ah well. At least I have all of the links in one place now...
