Choir class met for the first time last night. Aside from feeling very old compared to most of the kiddies in my class, it was nice to be back in a choir. My sight reading skills are extremely rusty & I'll be spending a bit of time at the piano getting back into shape. Also there were NO tenors at all (1 out of the 3 guys registered showed up to class) so I volunteered to sing tenor if no tenor section showed up. Which would make me more than a little self-conscious, but better me soloing the tenor part than no tenor at all - especially with all of the canonical bits in the songs. The teacher is really good & studied with Robert Shaw, who wrote or arranged a fuckton of the sheet music from the 20th century. So when he says "Shaw said," I start taking notes!
my first voice lesson is in 1 week - I can hardly wait! Though again, I'm a bit self-conscious about my current sight reading abilities. Jury is in 7 weeks & recital is at the end of the semester. I'm not too worried about that part. I know I can sing - it's music theory that makes me feel so deficient.
Online classes don't start until the 17th, but I logged in to WebStudy & updated all my user info so I'd know when the teacher registered the class. I wish I'd had half this enthusiasm when I was a kid!
Textbooks are out of control, though. $100 for a used paperback? You've GOT to be kidding me!
