J-Drama: Last Friends
WOW. Just wow. This is the best thing I've watched in a long time. This drama, which started airing yesterday night (10/4) in Japan, is both melancholy-ish and a bit angsty, and has a sensitive, beautiful feel to it that I love. Utada Hikaru sings the OP theme Prisoner of Love which is beautiful and sad and fits the show perfectly. The story is pretty much about relationships and issues which afflict the current (our) generation, and has an interesting cast of characters. I am attracted most of all by the characters of Michiru and Ruka (played by Ueno Juri of Nodame fame). Maybe I'm reading too much into it due to my love of Michiru x Haruka from Sailor Moon, but the (main?) pairing in this dorama, to my utmost pleasure are similar to the Sailor Moon one of Michiru x Haruka in many ways. I kid you not!!
First of all, both shows have the more feminine character called Michiru. Second of all, Ruka (high school friend from Michiru's past, this show is set 5 years after high school) is tomboyish, charming and aiming for the motocross championship. (All these characteristics are VERY similar to Haruka. Plus does anyone else find the name "Ruka" very close to "Haruka" in terms of sound? ;))
But the thing I know I was really looking out for was their relationship. Everyone knows about the relationship between Michiru x Haruka in Sailor Moon. Ok, what about Michiru and Ruka in Last Friends? Well, this shot from the OP (also featured in the CM) won me over immediately:
This show is set 5 years after high school (yay for mature, non-school doramas!), which was the last time Michiru and Ruka saw each other. In a store one day, Ruka spots Michiru and immediately chases after her bus on her bike. From there they are reunited and the story builds from there. From the start, it's obvious that Ruka has always felt deeply for Michiru (although Michiru is oblivious to Ruka's feelings), and I'm really interested to see how their relationship develops throughout the show (there are a few other characters which could, and I'm sure will, complicate things). But the ending scene !!!!!! I wouldn't have expected them to bring that so early into the show, but I'm happy. ^_^ <3
Also I really want Ruka's (Ueno Juri's) haircut (not sure if it would suit my face shape tho...*sigh*)
I think I will be fangirling over this show for the next 11 weeks. ^__^ <3

I'm heading off to camp for the weekend tomorrow morning. I should have been in bed 2 hours ago. But I just had to blog this and get the fangirling out of my system otherwise I would bursting all weekend. XD Was this post even coherent? I don't know, my heart is just going doki doki at the moment. ^^ I *heart* this show already. It's been a while since a show has made me feel this way. ♥ ♥ ♥
