This evening I got sick of the way I looked, so I went out and had 8 or 9 inches cut off my hair.
Well.
I look...different, all right.
When I told her how short I wanted it, the stylist held her comb at the level she planned to cut it and showed me in the mirror. "That's a lot of hair to take off, you realize," she said. I said, "Yeah. That's okay. It grows," and took off my glasses, telling her to figure out what to do with it from that point on. I couldn't see what she was doing anyway, and she was the expert. I asked her to take into account the fullness of my face, the uncooperative curls I have (which go in different directions on different sides of my head and annoy the F**K out of me), the fact that I didn't have a lot of time to mess with my hair so I didn't want anything that required complicated upkeep, and I wanted something that would work with the cowlicks along my hairline.
I panicked a little bit when I heard the sound of the thinning shears, but forced myself to remain Zen about it. I have a LOT of hair. It's always been thick and frizzy, and has been a constant source of annoyance. Now it's much less thick, and although I don't think my cut looks stunning by any means, hubby seems to really like it, and I figure it grows at around 2 inches a month so I can always change it if I really hate it.
My head feels much lighter and springier without all that hair, and my neck is cold without its protective little cloak. :( At least it'll be more comfortable without that much hair in the 95 degree, 99% humidity weather when I go down south this week to visit family.
Hubby got his hair cut too. He wouldn't tell me beforehand how he was getting it cut. As it turns out, he got it clippered with a #3 guard all the way up to his side part on the left, and to the same place on the other side, leaving the top in basically a long, side-swept partial mohawk, and everything else buzzed. It's sort of a modified man-Chelsea, if that makes any sense to anyone. It was certainly different. I'm not sure if I like it or not. I rarely am until a few days have passed. I think it's okay, though. It's new, at least, and that makes it more fun and interesting. :) What the hell. He works from home anyway, and it'll be much more comfy for him in that southern steamfest we're heading into.
