I'm kinda chilling out in my room this weekend. I've got this awesome flu bug that I have decided to dub the Harrison Bergeron Flu. It includes an roaring in my head that is exacerbated to the point where I cannot think around loud noises, like people opening a soda. So I'm staying in my room so as to not impose my unreasonable non-noise ( Read more... )

Which one was more romance than mystery? That sounds like something that I might like!

And in that light, I don't think I'd exactly recommend Castle to you. Not sure how you feel about the Fillion, but it's definitely oh, 66/33 mystery/sexy banter. The mysteries are pretty tight, though-I don't generally work them out until about 40 minutes in, something like that. But on the pro side, it isn't obsessed with either serial killers or sexual crimes.

I know what you mean by being at sea without a show. I can only say that I, and others, have sought refuge in getting old stuff we missed from netflix.

Yeah, vermilionsun was asking about the book too. Unfortunately, even apart from the fact that it wasn't my kind of genre, the book itself wasn't very good. Someone needs an editor to pick up typos.

I have no opinion on Nathan Fillion at all. He's there. A couple of people have spoken well of the show, and I *do* like flirtations/romantic elements in my genre TV. I tend to be more into mystery books rather than TV shows, for reasons unfathomable even to me, but I'll give most things a brief try if my friends like them. (Now, too bad ABC.com doesn't like my OS.)

Yup, I've been doing some rewatching, and some catching up on shows I missed, but there's something fun about watching a show on its first run.

Nope, no need for sci-fi. I mean, space and space ships do come in my preferred genre, but I watch other shows. Um...West Wing? And...um...Boston Legal?

And you are the third person to rec Damages, though I'm told it's a show where you need to start at the beginning to get it. Like, the past two seasons have been over the course of a single case?

One of my coworkers grew up in Baku. Would you like me to either a) ask her about travel advice/tourist-y things or b) put you two in touch? Granted, it was quite a while ago, but she still might have useful advice. :)

Oh, yes, that'd be nice. How long has it been since she left? I gather there has been a lot of growth in the last decade.

I think my free time got away from me somewhere.

I miss BSG too, and so does Obama, apparently: http://www.theonion.com/content/news/obama_depressed_distant_since

What is your 6/30/50 rule? Sounds interesting.

*snicker*

It's not a very exciting rule, actually. I just decided a while back that life was far too short to waste on things that don't grab me. So I give a book about 50 pages, a movie half an hour and a TV show six episodes, and if I'm not into it, I find something else to do. There's a little variation depending on the length of the volume, but that's about the limit.

BASEBALL!!!!

Depending on time and finances, I will happily go to either or both of the new stadiums.

I agree with the Damages recommendation even though I haven't had a chance to watch the current season yet. It is waiting for me on the DVR.

Did you ruin real Mac & Cheese or the packaged stuff?

Feel better.

Yeah, you are pretty much always on my baseball lists. Perhaps I shall plan something when I get back from visiting the patriarch. You know, when I have some spare time.

Yeah, enough people have recced Damages that I'll give it a go. I need to rustle up the first season.

I ruined the packaged stuff. It got soaked in the downpour on my way home. :(

Also, your icon makes me an interesting combination of cheerful and sad today.
