I'm kinda chilling out in my room this weekend. I've got this awesome flu bug that I have decided to dub the Harrison Bergeron Flu. It includes an roaring in my head that is exacerbated to the point where I cannot think around loud noises, like people opening a soda. So I'm staying in my room so as to not impose my unreasonable non-noise requirements on others. Meh. Nothing like a bug that hinders your ability to distract yourself from being sick. And yes, I went into work on Friday because I am an idiot.
Anyway, I've now figured I can read from my comp if I jack up the font. So have a list of things that have been going on in Jaye's life:
- I attended five tournament basketball games this March, three at the Piscataway subregional, and two at the Trenton regional. I could have made it 8, but I didn't feel like dealing with UConn fans quite that much. The upside of watching the games in person is I don't have to listen to the ESPN commentators mispronounce Louisville, misreport that Tennessee has no seniors, or ignore reporting on the play that just happened in order to once again erroneously claim that Kristi Toliver is the best point guard in the nation, in a game she's not even in. Oh, yes, and ENOUGH WITH THE SENIOR CRY CAM.
I am glad I made it to Rutgers' last home game this year. Once again, fond of the seniors, who both did well in their last game at home, blah blah blah, you've heard it before. And i makes me nostalgic because I remember the feeling of it being the last game on my home field. (Or the even worse feeling of not knowing it was your last game on your home field.) And, yes, I'm proving to be one of those adult who is reliving her childhood through other kids.
Also, does anyone know what was up with the AP All-American teams? I mean, I know they were trying to create actual teams, but neither Lavender nor Charles is a forward. They both play center, they are both listed at center.
Also, I believe that I am cheering for teams in the reverse order of their chances to win the whole thing.
- In case it wasn't obvious from the sap above, I am still in dire need of hugs. And yet, still single.
- Work is work. Too much to do, not enough people to do it. I'm just hoping I still have a job in six months. Also, I am still a little cranky about not getting the comp timed I'm owed, since I'm short on vacation time for the year.
- Both of my parents are now following me on twitter. I think my father doesn't quite get it.
- I have plane tickets to visit my daddy in May, flying through Istanbul. I have never before visited a country where I don't understand the language, so I am attempting to crash course in basic Russian. I also need to do some clothes shopping I think, if I want to visit any mosques, or travel outside Baku. Long skirt, head scarf, the like. I scheduled the trip so it falls over a three day weekend. (Victory Day, celebrating the Soviets' defeat of the Nazis, is a holiday in Azerbaijan. Okay...) I'll have to make sure Dad and I make some day trips out of the city. Looks like there are some awesome mud volcanoes and pertroglyphs about 40 miles outside of Baku. Woo!
- I am also visiting my mom and godmother later this month, but that is less of an adventure.
- I did not make it to ICon this year, clearly, but I am going to WorldCon in August.
- I have been on a mystery kick lately. Sadly, none of them have been good mysteries. One was more romance than mystery, and I hate romance. One was a recommended cozy that the woman at Partners in Crime swore was good, and she didn't like cozies either. In one I figured out the killer on something like page 30. This wouldn't be such a big problem, but mysteries are my one exception to my 6 episodes/30 minutes/50 pages rule, so I have to read the whole of them.
- I still miss BSG. Yeah, I know, I'm lame. Even though I was not pleased with the last season, or the finale, it was still the first show I was that into in a long time. It has not replaced Babylon 5 as my favorite show ever, so it's nice to have an answer to that. I need a new show to follow, I think, since the two shows I watched ended this season. I think I'm done with Dollhouse. I may continue with True Blood, but really, the folks behind that show seem to think the books are horror, and it's kinda annoying. A couple of folks have told me I might like Kings, so I should try that.
- I can have beer in a week. Also, due to the non-potable water in JSQ, and our lack of ground coffee, I haven't had any coffee since Thursday morning. Ick.
- I am still PubNighting almost every Wednesday, and quizzing every Thursday. The quizzing could be curtailed due to transit cuts, but until then...
- Opening Day today! Baseball makes me happy. And calm. I'll be switching back and forth between this and the Final Four tonight. With the sound off, clearly. I should also see if I can get to the new Yankees Stadium and Shea this year. And I have been suckered into organizing a trip to see the Cyclones, and possibly the Newark Bears.
- In a new first for me, I have ruined Mac & Cheese. That takes talent.
- Not my life per se, but yay for Iowa!
Dear god, my life is boring.
I am now off to take more drugs, because while visual hallucinations are kinda fun, tactile hallucinations are fucking creepy.
