My project manager apologised for some of his behaviour and said that he wasn't ever the best people manager to start with. He then spent some time pointing out how the other ITPM hasn't stepped up to the plate and that I seem to have born a lot of the work, and that while this isn't fair he needed me to run down what my actual job responsibilities were which he took quite well. He spent some time assuring me that I'm "one of the good guys" and that he hadn't intended his behaviour to come off the way it had. Then both he and the Program Manager had a word to my line management about my workload and ensuring that I'm not working the hours that I am currently. All of this I needed to hear and am glad for. My line management are being positively useless and haven't even spoken to me on the matter.
In order to make sure that I am never this person I have spent some time this week trying to organise some treats for all the engineers I've been thrashing to make our project schedule work. We have a "Rewards Points" system which is essentially a Frequent Flyer program for good corporate citizenry. So lots of points handed out to key people and I'm trying to organise a cake for one of my Core Team sessions for all the amazing work they've pulled off in the last couple of weeks.
I have the next 2 days off as time in lieu for my *last* project which went live in March. I still have another couple of days outstanding too, overtime was a lot better for me really there's no time to take days off. They whinged about this lot and I booked them 3 months ago. Still... time off is time off!
I'll be heading to GenCon Oz tonight and then only staying until Friday night, most of tomorrow and Friday I'll be found camped in the boardgames and miniatures sections... no RPG sessions for me what with the change in weekend plans because Friday night I'm flying back to Sydney in time for DefQon1.
Please contact me if you are in any of the following categories:
