All right, I finished watching the movie, and am now going to talk about it. It was a so-so movie, I mean it was not bad, but not great either. I am very much looking forward to the O'Neill-centric movie that will come out sometime hopefully within a year. Cameron Mitchel is okay, but he just doesn't do it for me as a replacement for O'Neill. Teal'c didn't do very much in this movie either, a let-down, because Teal'c can be very funny/fierce. However, I think that we are done having to worry about the Ori, not an extremely interesting story line at any point that it was used, and it dominated the final two seasons. And in this movie there was a scene where SG-1 finally managed to diminish the power of Vala's evil ascended Ori daugther (can't even remember her name, not the most compelling story I've seen), and then a rebel Ascended Ancient who decided to break the Ascension rules and try to help destroy the Ori, came to fight the evil daughter of Vala. They both turned into glowing lights and flew into each other. I liked this better the first time I saw it when it was called "The Reckoning", i.e. the episode of DS9 where the Prophet possessed Major Kira and the Kost'Amojan possessed Jake Sisko and they were facing off in the same way, until stupid Kai Winn interfered by turning on the chroniton pulse and making them both leave, thereby postponing the Reckoning and nearly getting the whole galaxy destroyed by the Pah Wraith (but at least it led to another year and a half of quality TV, so I guess I won't be too hard on her, haha).
For me the ending of the movie was bad, it made me angry when Samantha Carter with her beautiful long hair came to Mitchell's hospital bed after he was recovering from a terrible beating at the hands of a human-form replicator, and she gave him a kiss! Hello, Carter belongs with O'Neill, not the O'Neill wanna-be. And I still don't like all of Mitchell's references to his grandmother and what she used to say. His grandmother can't hold a candle to either one of mine.
A.D.D. Moment - Perhaps when I grow up I will marry Samantha Carter and become a member of SG-1
A.D.D. Moment - If that doesn't work out, I'd be happy to marry Vala Maldoran and become an interstellar bandit.
One thing that does make me sad though is that Vala won't be in the next movie. With the possible exception of Daniel Jackson, she was the strongest character in Ark of Truth, I love her humor, combined with her shady background and newly reformed lifestyle since joining SG-1. Anyway, it looks like Continuum, the last bit of Stargate SG-1 that I have yet to see, will be a better movie. From the synopsis, I believe Anubis travels back in time and totally messes up Earth's timeline, and SG-1 follows him back to try and undo it. There is a cameo by O'Neill, not as good as him being an actual main character, but probably about the level of Season Eight, which though inferior to the many seasons before it, was nonetheless better than seasons 9 and 10.
And sometime within the next week or two, I should be getting Stargate Atlantis Season Five, the majority of which I still have not seen. For as much as I love SG-1, I like Atlantis even more, it is tied with DS9 for my very favorite show ever, so that will be a treat. Too bad that show got cancelled. Let's hope that Stargate Universe can continue the fine tradition. I wish they'd bring back McKay, or even Woolsey, as a regular on that show. But I am looking forward to fall for the premier of Stargate Universe (okay, and for next school year)... Anyway, that is it for the night.
