I love my fruity beats. Artful Dodger double-pack for half-price, yeah baby.
PAUL IS MAKING CHICKEN SOUP.
I was head engineer for my first band today!! It was amazing, I was filled with adrenaline for the entire session. They were a bunch of jazz students doing live organic-style drum n bass! I did some preproduction, figured out which mics to use for which instruments and tweaked the compressors and reverbs. There was an amaaaazing drummer - at 19, he's at the top of his class.. keeping perfect time at the 170+ bpm tune. An awesome bass player - he had an effects pedal which turned it into this warm, chunky sub bass. A really cool guitarist - lush washes of sound. Trumpet and sax player, sounded incredible. They gave me permission to take all the bed tracks and do a remix. Mmm, remixing.. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.
I'm playing in Prince George on Saturday. Don't laugh. I realize it is the epitome of "Canadian". Lumberjacks, pulp mills, people that say "eh". But they're throwing down a crazier jam than anything we have here... bands, breakdancers, and they're actually for once getting me a headset mic. I'll be sorry not to perform that epileptic juggling sideshow of crossfader, volumes, EQs, pitch controls and handheld microphone (sar...casm..)
I haven't been posting so much. I guess I just don't feel as interesting lately. All I do is learn about recording and engineering music all day, then I come home, whip up crazy dinners with the love of my life, kiss, maybe watch a movie and go to bed. Being happy is boring. That's probably why Van Gogh cut off his ear - he just had nothing else interesting going on in his life.
