The Harbour...Chapter 51: Interruption

“This is it!” Cassie squealed slamming her hand against the open face of the bridal magazine.

Elisabeth leaned in and screamed with laughter.

Ophelia, who was standing next to the sofa, covered her face with both hands.

“If I ever design a dress like that just shoot me.  Right there on the spot.  You don’t even have to remind me why.”

“Oh this is such fun!” Cassie gushed, leaning over and giving Carolyn a sudden hug.

It was Saturday, the kids were all out and Carolyn’s two best friends Cassie and Elisabeth were over with family friend and Cassie’s first cousin, Ophelia.

Even though Ophelia had designed Carolyn’s dress for the wedding and they had already had a couple of fittings, the girls had brought along a stack of bridal magazines deciding that it would be fun to go through them and pick out the absolutely worst styles they could find.

“We need more coffee,” Carolyn said.

Do you have something a bit stronger you can put in that?” Cassie asked with a grin.

Ophelia looked at her watch.

“It is after midday,” she said, nodding at Cassie.

Nodding and laughing, Carolyn shuffled past Elisabeth’s legs, and walked around the coffee table.

The doorbell rang.

“Expecting someone?” Elisabeth asked.

“Carolyn shook her head.  Myrtle will get it,” she said, reaching for the coffee pot.

Their laughter was interrupted by the living room door swinging open.

Myrtle stood behind him her eyes shooting daggers into his back.  There was no question that he had pushed past her.

Cassie jumped to her feet and moved toward Carolyn.

Kyle barely seemed to notice that there were other people in the room.  His eyes were locked on Carolyn.

“Why?!  Why did you agree to marry me?!”
